Question about Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Why does the dealer use 5w30 when the 2003 Monte Carlo SS with 3800 engine calls for 10w30. They do not even stock 10w30 so I switched to Mobile 1 5w30.

By using 5w30 this allow use in all GM products.
One product to stock=less confusion for techs,
And LOWER COST TO DEALERSHIP.
Its simple business principles.

First number is the pour point cold. with either grade oil it gives the same protection at operating temp. You could move up to a synthetic 10 w40 and suffer no consequences. (numbers on synthetics generally run far lower and higher than their designations.) As to dealer...can't figure out most anything they do...don't look for common sense there!!!

2004 monte carlo ss 3.8 engine diagnostic message "cylinder 5 misfire"- will changing the spark plugs resolve this issue?

it is a good place to start, replace ignition wires and plugs, for that year 3800 i recomend autolite iridium plugs and premium 7MM wires.
once you replace the parts erase the code and see if it returns.
cylinder 5 is the 3rd counting from the left on front of engine.

I'm looking for a Monte Carlo SS 2000 driveaxle at a wrecking yard.Is there any other car that has the exact same driveaxle?

Your best bet would be to ask the salvage yard,a shop,or even contact a Chevy dealer since they most likely know what exactly what goes into every car.Dealer would be best bet and it's a free call.Someone, somewhere knows.Good luck! Greg

My 2000 monte carlo ss with a 3800 engine tends to start and stall about six times befor running, I pulled 3 codes 0108, 0404, and 1404 from the the computer .

I believe the codes are emmission related. I would have the fuel pump pressure checked. The fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator seems to be the failrue. The restarting of the engine several times is making the system build up enough pressure to start running . I would take to a shop to have the fuel pressure checked.

The Starter silenoid is probably what the problem is. And the knocking could that be a loose starter? The two problems doesn't seem connected.
