Question about Chevrolet 2500
Year 1986 with 350 c.i. quadrajet carb. No skip, no miss, rich fuel smell. Choke comes on at idle. Mpg went down also. Choke is fully open on carb.

sounds like you are not geting the right amount of air to fuel system.Have you checked the air filter is clean.Change the air flow senser if it is clean.Good luck!!

When you say it's destroying the air filter---do you mean it's all sooted up ?? I am assuming that what you mean.
Try disconnecting the vacuum line at the egr valve and see if that helps.
But it sounds more like a plugged up exhaust system.Try disconnecting or looosing the flange before the cataylic convertor and then see how it runs.

Rebuild the carburetor,and make sure the ports are all clear,small,and large,make sure the float is level,and there are two plugs in the bottom of the carburetor,that are about the size of a pencil eraser,use jb weld,and spread over the plugs.They are bad to leak fuel into the intake,these are on the bottom.The jb weld will seal them up.
