Re: si tex e z 7 loran
try using a good quality electrical spray around the base of the steering wheel where it meets the shroud. debris falls in here and clogs up the copper connector which goes around the column / steering wheel.
DO NOT HAVE IGNITION ON FOR THIS JOB. just turn key enkugh to take it off the steering lock.
If you have a compressed air blower then use it afterwards. If not, leave it a couple of hrs before testing.
This may need to be done a couple of times,. if fault still occurs, it needs to be scanned by a diagnostic technician to see what fault codes come up.

Hey Earl, what's going on ? The air bag module is usually under the passenger seat or the center console ! The only way to turn off the light is with a up grade scan tool , not code reader. An the light is on for a reason , problem with the system ! If you don't know about this don't mess with it , you could deploy an air bag !
The AIR BAG indicator, located on the instrument panel cluster (IPC) is used to notify the driver of SIR system malfunctions and to verify that the SDM is communicating with the IPC. When the ignition is turned ON, the SDM is supplied with ignition 1 voltage and requests the IPC to flash the AIR BAG indicator 7 times. While flashing the indicator, the SDM conducts test on all SIR system components and circuits. If no malfunctions are detected the SDM will communicate with the IPC through the class 2 serial data circuit and request the IPC to turn the AIR BAG indicator OFF. The SDM provides continuous monitoring of the air bag circuits by conducting a sequence of checks. If a malfunction is detected the SDM will store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and request the IPC to turn the AIR BAG indicator ON. The presence of a SIR system malfunction could result in non-deployment of the air bags. The AIR BAG indicator will remain ON until the malfunction has been repaired.
first defeat the air bag system. as that can be very dangerous to any mech. working so close to the driver air bag !!! some time the (toyota/gm) car was renamed to 1998 Chev, Prism. this happened in 1997 at the NUMMI factory in calif. why do i mention this , that is because they made may changes , at a spec. chassis vin number in 1997. some have Toy 4A engine others 7a. vast changes, and most online FSM books are vague to the extreme here. but the basic procedure, 1: better minus pull. 2: air bag defeat. the above battery disconnect does not kill air bags for some time.. (long) 3: steering base plastics, remove. 4: remove anti-theft temper screws (takes some skill ) 5: remove key switch connector. (at end of switch pig tail) 6: key switch is not free to spin, 7: some require the steering wheel to be pulled. if 7 is true, learn first hot to not loose the Air bag coil spring timing. I highly recommend getting a real shop manual for this car. working blind can be dangerous to you and others. the books are not rare, i say get one. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=m570.l3201&_nkw=Geo+prism+shop+manual&_sacat=0
CHECK HVAC FUSE OR BLOWER MOTOR RELAY/FUSE.IF BOTH GOOD BLOWER MOTOR BAD OR CONTROL SWITCH GOING BAD.IF YOU HAVE TO REMOVE BLOWER MOTOR HOTWIRE TEST IT BEFORE BUYING ANOTHER ONE.BE SURE TO DISARM AIR BAGS SYSTEM WHEN WORKING AROUND DASH OR STEERING AREA.REMOVE AIR BAG FUSES TO DISARM.WAIT 10 MINUTES.WHEN YOU GET READY TO ARM AIR BAG PLACE FUSE IN.TURN ON IGNITION THE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL FLASH 7 TIMES THEN TURN OFF.
It means that there is a problem with your air bag. It should be blinking a code. Count the blinks. In otherwords it should blink twice, pause and then blink 7 more times indicating a code 27 which would be a burned out bulb on PAD. Count blink code and the google your truck year and air bag code and then the code and see what the forums are saying about it and what to check.
recently had the same problem looks like a common prob among lincoln 8 i went to a junk yard picked up a front right air bag strut assembaly 25 dollars 3 12mm bolts and 1 7/8 big bolt on bottom can be removed and put back on in one days time with no complications dont forget to cut all hoses and wires back far enough to maybe use again if you have to u need the check valve attached to the bag as well good luck seem to fix mine ( hole in the bag)
