Light Here's the question: I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and suddenly all of the lights, including the headlights, dashboard & everything went off. After a few seconds they came back on & went off and on whenever it felt like it, not constantly. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Headlight switch has poor connection at switch or bad solder point in switch. Try removing and take a pencil eraser and clean contact points plug in. Test by turning it on before reinstalling in dash and then wiggle and manipulate wire harness and plug to duplicate problem. If you have to press and squeeze the switch to get it to duplicate then its a printed circuit board or solder point. Either repair or replace board.

Well that alone would help narrow it down...there are only a few things that power all that at the same time. it would be harder if only one went out at a time. the fact that it comes of and on would tell me that there is simply a bad connection some where. I would start with the relays and check power going in to the fuse box and it leaving. try to turn everything just to see if they are tight.like they sould be.

ill pretend yes......
blown fuse. what else could cause so many things, to lose DC power.
>?
a fuse can be good, bad or intermittent , even corroded,
a tech would scratch head and pick the easiest fault to fix.
my guess, is
dashboard doesnt work means the guages , and idiot lamps are dead but the park lamps there (dimmable) do work.
so what fuse is that.? i say to self.....
I open the FSM. and look at the power cluster feed.
what do i see.?

i look in instruments page. (aka. cluster)
tells you how it works
then i jump wiring page 8w-40-2
i see what, Fuse 10. is it good? and fuse 17.
fuse 10 is key on,, and fuse 17, is hot full time.

thats it, if the cluster is dead, only fuses can kill it 100% dead
or it losts its main ground, which is unlikely but voltmeter proves
in 1min flat. (G201)

i picked right, the cluster dead, is the most simple
if Headlights are dead, its most simple (not in Canada with DRL)

bingo?

All warning lights(e.g oil flow, charging/brake etc) and gauges(e.g temperature, speed meter, rave counter etc) on the dashboard have suddenly stopped working on my jeep grand cherokee 1996. also all...

Could be a fuse, but to be sure take it into a shop and have them run a diagnostic on it. If they ask you to pay, call another shop. Or you can take it over to Auto Zone and they'll run one for you for free. If they can't tell you anything you'll have to bring it to a shop where they have more sophisticated diagnostic tools.

Head lights and dashboard lights come on and off

I had this problem on my wife's Jeep Cherokee.  The only way that I could get it to stop was to take the entire dash apart to get at the back of the instrument panel.  Once you get there, there is a plug in on the back of it, I clean that off with rubbing alcohol and clean the plug up as well.  I couldn't figure anything else to do so I put it back together and haven't had it happen again for the last 6 months.  Just to let you know if your Grand is like her sport, you will get everything off of the dash and think you should be able to get to the instrument panel just to find that there is a clip holding the headlight switch on keeping the panel from coming all the way off.  I had to put my head in the floor and my feet in the air to get to it, but I got it off.  Good luck!

Grand cherokee jerking movement

I have a 2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee, I was driving along the freeway maybe doing about 60mph when my jeep suddenly jerked, when it did this my emissions light came on. I pulled over in a parking lot checked all my fluids oil, transmission fluid, everything seemed okay, as I was getting back on the freeway I watched the R PMs that was fine and my emission light went off. After driving for about 5 minutes it did it again and my emissions light came back on, I did notice this time it seemed to be in the rear where this Jerking/ Bucking came from can anyone help??? PLEASE
