Sounds like the anti- theft system!! You will need to have a new key programmed by a dealer.

SOURCE: 2001 Chevy impala had ignition switch replaced,

Turn the key to "on" and let the light flash. It should stop flashing after about ten to twenty minutes. Once the light is on steady, turn it off, then start the car. I usually put another battery on jumper cables attached to the cars battery so it does not run down and die before the system re-arms.

SOURCE: 2003 chevy tahoe with key stuck in ignition.

I have towed several of these with same problem. Sounds like to me it needs to go back in for the ignition switch again. Unless it's not going into park. If it's not going into park it would be a shift linkage issue and needs to be adjusted. Chris J.C. Towing & Recovery

Why wont my dodge neon allow me to gain access to my ecu to program my new key, so my car will crank or start.

In order to program a new key, you have to have two working keys that are already programmed. The engine control is programmed that way to prevent a parking valet from programming their own key.
YOU MUST HAVE TWO WORKING KEYS or the controller will shut off the engine.

The locksmith should have changed the pins in the new lock to match your original key. The controller would have recognized it and let you drive the car. So, you either need to call the locksmith back to fit the old key to the new ignition cylinder, or get it to a dealer so they can instruct the brain to accept the new key. And get two keys while you are at it as a back up.

Reset anti theft 2004 Tahoe

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

Perform the re-learning procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY light, after approximately 10 minutes the light will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 10 seconds.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes ( the vehicle
  6. is now ready to relearn the Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK).
Important: The vehicle relearns Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
Start the engine (the vehicle has now learned the Sensor Data Code and/or password).

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 and i changed the starter, crank position sensor, tried a different ignition but the ignition still would not turn the engine over... Im thinking about wiring up a push start...

unless you have the key fob also, you need a new ignition switch, with key fob and key with a chip in it,the switch turns on the fuel pump when the chip is recognized, take it to someone that knows what they are doing, you CANNOT hotwire it.

Broken ignition key

If the new one is not programmed you you may be able to get it started if you hold the old key close to the ignition while starting it with the new key. You will have to get the new key programmed.

My 2005 chevy impala won't start since someone broke into my car

i would say when the person broke into your car they set off the security system which stops the car from starting, the way to reset the security is to put your key into the ignition turn the key until all the dash lights come on and let them stay on about 15 minutes after the 15 minutes have expired turn the key off and wait about 3 seconds and then your car should start. hope this helps.

Is there any way for me to get my ford contour started? a key broke ,off in ignition swich w/chip a while back & i was able to drive with no key now it will not start is there any way to get it to...

If the chip is still in there it should work. try tapping the ignition and see if this will move the key, maybe it's not in the right location to start. If you were using a screwdriver to start it, it could be shoved back to far. you can also try a paperclip to dislodge it

In the message center box security light has come on

Do you have a second key. If so try using that key to start the vehicle. Dose the light go off.

If it dose switch back to the key that causes the security light to come on. If the light comes on for one key but not the other the chip in that key is failing.

If the security light dose not go out for any key you use, it is the ignition detection unit is failing and need replaced.
