Question about 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD
Do I need to remove the three bolts on top of tower or just the shock bolt
Just the shock bolt is enough to get these out. One on top and one on the bottom. Take note of the rubber bushings positions for when you put the new ones back on.

Should be a hex end on shock to put a wrench on or vise grips to hold shaft from spinning, if that's the problem your having.

On a lot of models the nut is welded to the arm and does not need to be held. Try turning it and watch the nut. If the bolt comes out it sould go back in the same way. Be careful not to over tighten - if the threads are stripped the nut will have to be replaced.

No it does not, just remove the top and bottm bolts and shock should come out. you may need a jack under the front axle on the side you are removing to hold axle from dropping to low or you can just jack it back up to line up the shock,HERES A PICTURE TO SHOW YOU WHERE TO REMOVE THE TOP NUT AND BOTTM BOLT.

SOURCE: While replacing shocks on my
The bolts are welded to the circular bracket. You can try a long flat head screw driver to hold the welded end from moving and rotating during removal, but your still going to have to keep the bolt from turning during install. At this point, compressing the coil spring to access the bolt seems to be the only option. It will need to be replaced (assembly) or re-welded before assembling the tower and shock.
