I would think that you might a cam shaft senior problem. One thing I am telling is to buy a meter that you can plug into your and it will give the code of the problem . You get book wit with all the codes . The only other thing would be a vacum leak.

Most cars idle around 750 when warm and higher when cold. I don't think that is your problem. If you have a CEL on you can take it to the auto parts store and have them check for the codes with their reader and give you a printout of the issue. I don't think that's your problem. The jolt in your transmission upon shifting into reverse sounds like a bad u-joint. To check this, have someone shift from park to neutral to reverse while you are laying under the car watching all the joints in your drive shaft. The one that moves and has a lot of play is the bad one.

High idle, 800 warm 1300 cold, how to adjust lower------what are normal numbers?

Those numbers appear to be in the normal range, possibly a bit high? Since adj are all computer controlled, I would suggest removing the air intake hose and inspecting the throttle body bore for "coking" of built up carbon, which is a common cause of idle maladies...

What should my 2010 camry rpms be at in park starting the car

Hi Joseph, When starting the vehicle from cold in cold weather, the RPM can be as high as 1300 and in temperate climates about 1100 RPM. The RPM will drop to normal as the coolant is warmed. Normal idle speed is between 750 for Auto and 650 to 700 for manual transmission. Regards John

Chevy Malibu Cold Idle Problem

Check the water coolant thermostat. If it is stuck in the "open" position you are heating up all the water in the coolant system and this will take time. The thermostat keeps the water in the engine until warmed up to almost normal running temperature, only then does it allow the coolant to enter the radiator.

the normal rpm is from 700 to 800. after 900 is too high since the car is runing too high at all times there is a vacum leak a hose or intake gasquet but check the idle valve may be stuk open

My car slams when put into drive. is it the idle

Yes, sounds like the idle speed is too high. If you keep driving like that, you will fry the torque converter / turbine. Since idle is computer controlled, you will have to take it for service tune up. There is one possibility that the rich, high rpm idle used for cold start is not disengaging properly after the engine warms up. Air conditioning will raise the idle speed by a couple hundred rpm, so avoid using it until you have the problem fixed. BTW.....warm engine rpm in idle, and neutral should be around 700-800. Anything over 900-1100 will result in a hard shift into 1st gear and dragging at stop lights.

4runner idle high when cold after warm up it idle 1200 rpm shot down engine after fuw min. restarting the engine the idle to low?

it seems that the auto choke setting is maybe wrong or there is a problem with engine management, or a worn part which is sticking.

when cold, the engine should be higher as the choke will be on but a warm up idle of 1200 seem a bit high i would expect around 800 and then on restart if the engine is warm then the choke should be off but the idle being too low indicates one of the above.

High idle at starting

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak in the air intake side. Check all your small and large hoses around the throttle body. Also check your idle air valve....cylindrical device connected to the the air box at the front of the engine.
