Question about 2001 Dodge Stratus

I have a 1998 Dodge Stratus and the ignition is locked and the wheel is now. Before the wheel wasn't but I tried locking the wheel to see if the ignition would unlock but it didn't work. How can I remove the ignition lock and switch when it's in the lock position?

I suggest you purchase a Haynes Repair Manual 1995-2005 edition. It will walk you through the ignition cylinder replacement process. You can purchase these at most auto parts stores for around 19.95

My horn on my 2003 dodge stratus keeps going off when I shut my car off. Could it be a fuse or relay?

Perhaps a relay. But does it change or quit if you move the steering wheel? Try to see if it changes if you raise or lower the steering wheel, which indicates a short in the steering column near the ignition steering lock linkage.

Why won't my key turn the ignition for my 2000 Dodge Stratus. The steering wheel is not locked but neither key will turn in the ignition.

Probably aftermarket alarm. Should be a small switch close to it to turn it off. If it were mine, I would remove the system .

I have a 2001 dodge stratus and the key wont turn

Have you tried moving the steering wheel while trying to turn the key? Many times when you lock the ignition there is pressure on the steering wheel lock. That pressure against the lock can prevent the key from turning. Move the wheel one way then the othe while turning the key. You may need to move the wheel with a lot of force. The wheel will move more one direction than the other. Hold force on the wheel when turning the key. If that is the problem the key will turn easily when the wheel takes the pressure off the lock. Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My 1998 Dodge Caravan key will not turn over steering wheel is locked as well as brakes..how can i unlock it to be able to put in neutral???

if the steering wheel is turn all the way one way and locked by the steering wheel lock then you will have to turn the steering wheel more and try turning the key.sometimes when the steering wheel is turned all the way one way and locked the pressure that is against the lock will sometimes not allow the key to turn.if the wheel is in the straight ahead position it may be the ignition key lock is worn and needs replacing.

My boyfriend put a new started in my 2002 dodge stratus and now the ignition is locked up and we cant get the key in

replacing the starter has nothing to do with the ignition being locked up the steering wheel is probably not locked in place or the car is not in park

I also have a 2000 stratus and the wheel turns

The ignition cylinder is either worn out or you may have a key that has excessive wear. Try using another key or you may be able to take your vin number and proof of ownership to a dealer and make a new key. Chrysler is known for faulty ignition switches though and if the new key does not work you will have to replace the ignition lock cylinder.
