I have a 1989 chevy 1500 5.7L the ac is broke and I noticed on the diagram on the fan shroud that there is a diagram for a truck without ac can I just use this belt to bypass the ac

Check to see if the AC belt turns anything else, like Power steering, Alternator, Fan, etc. I had a car with defunct AC once, and took its' belt off (the belt was just for AC) with no problems.

Smoking belt

Not knowing if you have a single serpentine belt or separate belt for the AC compressor, this is most likely the compressor bearings out. If the belt is smoking, and it has its own AC compressor belt I would recommend cutting the belt off so it does not break and cause other damage under the hood.

Is it possible to by pass a AC commpressor on a 1996 vw jetta using a shorter belt ? Or just going to the parts store and asking for a belt with no ac ?

Yes you can bypass the ac compressor with a shorter belt, however it may take a few tries to get the right length belt. Even if they have a belt for a non ac Jetta, the belt sometimes isn't the right length.

I currently own a V6 3.0 L Mercury Sable LS. The AC pulley has stopped working entirely as the ac clutch has ground it into the compressor. I need to know the length of a serpintine belt with no ac. I...

Talk to your automotive supply. My understanding is that a Non-AC belt will run right thru the area where the AC pulley is. You can get a bypass pulley that will allow you to avoid the AC and it's pulley and a specific belt for that setup.

AC went out and we had to redirect the belt to exclude. What is broken

what happens is either the bearings in the compres froze up for the clutch on the comp froze up either way to get it to work agian you need to replace the comp. but if you dont know to steps to do so dont youll just be throwning money away.
