Hi tbishaag,

here is a great answer from about.com

Whatis lost when it won't start? Fuel or spark? This is the first questionyou must answer before you start troubleshooting the problem.Tobe honest, when I see a problem like this on a car with an aftermarketalarm system, I tell the customer to take it to the people whoinstalled the alarm. About 75% of the time it is the fault of theaftermarket alarm. I'm not trying to get out of the work, it just savesthe customer from spending lots of dollars to diagnose the problem andusually wind up telling them it is the fault of the aftermarket alarm.
Whenthis happens we have to determine what is lost when it won't start, fuel or spark. The next time it happens, take a hose off the intakemanifold and shoot some carburetor cleaner inside it. Try to start itand if it starts right up, you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't, takeoff a plug wire and stick an old spark plug on it. Lay it on somethingmetal so you have a ground and crank it. There should be a nice, brightblue spark. If not, you have an ignition problem.

a lot of owners of diff models are having the same problem but was fixed.

hope this helps.

2003 jeep grand cherokee will not turn over

Constant 12-volt power is applied through 40 A FUSE 8 in the power distribution center (PDC) to the engine starter motor relay and through 40A fuse 14 to the ignition switch. If the park/neutral position switch is connected to ground, turning the ignition switch to START causes 12 volts to pass through 10A fuse 31 in the junction block and the engine starter motor relay coil to close the relay and apply 12 volts to the starter. Any of the parts mentioned could be open or defective.

MAKE SURE DISTRIBUTOR CAP ,ROTOR, SPARKPLUGS AND WIRES, OKAY IF ALL HAS BEEN REPLACED.IF NOT GETTING SPARK PROBLEM COULD BE IGNITION COIL FAULTY, ASD RELAY FAULTY,DISTRIBUTOR WITH CAMSHAFT SENSOR FAULTY OR YOU HAVE FAULTY PCM. CODE SCAN VECHICLE FOR FAULT CODE, IF YOU ARE GETTING SPARK PROBLEM IN THE FUEL SYSTEM, CHECK FUEL PUMP RELAY AND FUSE MAKE SURE FUEL FILTER BEEN CHANGED AND FUEL PRESSURE IS 39 - 41 PSI. CHECK FOR FUEL SPARK SEE WHAT GOING ON, VECHICLE NEEDS FUEL OR SPARK TO RUN IF ONE NOT WORKING ENGINE WILL NOT START.

1993 jeep grand cherokee larado hose broke in back of motor got everything wet. car shut off and would not start, replaced the crand senser.and got no spark from coil, check for power, no power at coil...

Check the ignition coil harness you may have a bad connection. When you turn the key on the relay ASD should click without the ASD relay operation expect no power to coil and even no fuel pump. Do this turn the key on and cycle the switch you should hear the fuel pump activate. If you dont check the fuse. For the coil to have no power you may have bad connection on the harness or connection.Go to the ignition coil on the B+ that is battery power apply battery power and see it it starts. If it doesnt you will need to inspect ignition control modulecansmo_197.gif

Jeep just quit thinkin timing belt right brfore stop ran rugh

The Grand Cherokee does not have timing belt, they are chain driven. You may have a faulty coil, I would start by checking to make sure you have proper spark and fuel pressure. It could also be the fuel delivery, poss. a bad fuel pump, or fuel pump relay. You can easily check this by spraying some b-12 into the throttle body while someone cranks it over, if it starts then you have a fuel problem.

1993 Jeep Cherokee starts when cold. Runs short distance.

It can possibly be the crank position sensor mounted on the top of the bell housing on the passenger side of the vehicle causing the problem. I have replaced a few of these for the same reason.

1993 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 turns over no spark.

Most common cause of this is a bad crank position sensor. However, do not change it before testing. Test between the b and c terminals of the connector with a digital volt ohm meter (set to ohms) You should read an open circuit there (same reading as if both leads were not touching each other and the meter was turned on) Anything different means it has failed. If it checks out as good, then get yourself a chiltons or haynes manual and follow the test procedures outlined in them. Worst thing you can do is start buying parts and hoping it will solve the problem. If you do that, likely, you will have an engine with lots of new parts that still does not start.

1993 jeep cherokee. Can't get spark out of coil.

Check the Crankshaft Position sensor. Usually it will reveal itself through the check engine codes. If this is faulty, the coil will not get the signal it needs to fire.

1993 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO- TRUCK WONT

OK...I have a 93 outside...one diagram I have shows an ignition module next to coil...but there is none on mine, (4.0 engine)
Two items to check are crank sensor and cam sensor inside distributor. Test procedure can be found in just about any manual including haynes.
You will need a decent volt/ohm meter to do testing. You can also check codes by turning ignition switch on/off three times, leaving it on the third time. Check engine will flash code #'s (ex: one flash, pause two flashes= the number twelve.then followed by a longer pause then another set of flashes etc.)

1988 jeep comanche will start only when you hold tumbler in the start position, when you relese it, engine stops.. engine is a 4.0 auto, fuel injected 4x4

If the car has a resistor coil with a ballast resistor to drop voltage from 12 to 8 then check the resistor wiring. When you engage the starter tumbler it by passes the ballast resistor and sends 12 volts straight to the eight volt coil to get good spark. When you release it the 12 volts goes through the resistor to 8 volts and then the coil. If there is a fault in this circuit the engine stops. Jump the 12 volts straight to the coil and start it. If it keeps going the ballast circuit is faulty. Paul
