I have a 1988 surburban and I need to replace the ignition lock cylinder how do I do that

You have to remove the horn cover, remove the steering wheel nut, then use a wheel puller to remove the steering wheel. Then you need a lock plate compressor to push down the metal plate and remove the retaining ring (spread the ring and lever off with a couple of flat screwdrivers). Next, remove screws holding the turn signal assembly, unscrew the emergency flasher button on the side of column, and remove the turn signal arm. Gently pull the turn signal assembly towards you so that it can hang by the wires and be out of the way. Then to access the screw that holds the lock cylinder in, pull out the key buzzer contact (a small plastic and metal gadget in front of the screw). Remove the screw and the lock should come out when you pull on it. Slide the new lock into place and reverse the previous steps and you should be good to go. Good luck.

I purchased a flasher for 1996 lincoln town car and would like instructions and diagrams on installation

The flasher is located under the sterring wheel to the left, just over the brake pedal, the flasher unit is a (commonly) round or cubic dollar size piece.

Ford had a common problem that would cause the blinker operation to fail caused by a short circuit in the turn signal switch. The switch contact plate will come loose causing the blinkers to stay on or not work at all. To replace this switch remove the steering column cover (3 screws on the bottom facing upward). Once the steering column cover is off remove the two mounting screws that attach the switch to the column. When the switch is loose from the column remove the wiring harness connector and reconnect to the new switch. Remount the new switch with the mounting screws and re-attach the steering wheel column cover and recheck operation.

Hope this helps.

I have been trying to figure out what the signal light stick is called and I want to fix it to where it stays down when I signal

This is part of the turn signal switch cam plate in the steering collumn. Be carefull replacing this yourself. You'll need special tools to pull the sterring wheel and there other switches involved there. The plastic cam on the plate is broken or worn and needs to be replaced.

Trying to replace turn signals in 78 monte Carlo w/ tilt wheel.got sreering wheel off and down to the metal cover just over the turn signals but no screws to remove????

you need a compression tool to press down the metal plate... after you press it down a few millimeters, it will expose a snap ring in the steering shaft... you will need some kind of pick to remove the snap ring.... after you remove the metal lock plate, you will see screws recessed in the plastic... you have to turn the turn signals both directions to access all the screws

There is a continuing blinking noise after the blinker turns off

The fix for this is easy and free. The problem is caused by contaminated grease which has bridged contacts of the multifunction switch. This cause a short circuit which cause the hazard flasher to cycle. You need a #25 torx and a # 10 torx. Remove the 3 #25 torx screws which hold plastic surrounding the steering column. Remove the plastic. Remove the 25 torx screw on the top of the multi function switch. Detatch the wiring connectors. Remove the multifunction switch. Use the #10 torx to remove all the #10 torx screws. Remove the cover and clean the grease off the contacts and copper switch plate. You will notice grease has bridged the some of the slots in switch plate. Clean it up and regrease. reverse steps to reinstall. Notice the metal peice protruding from the multi function as it facing you. This is the turn signal reset switch. When you turn this is what resets the turn signal when the wheels straighten. This needs to be pushed in so no more than 1/8 " is protruding. If you dont do this before reinstalling your horn may go off when ever you move the steering wheel after reinstallation. This whole job should take 20- 45 minutes based on your mechanical apptitude.
