How do I set tappets on Nissan 1400

With a special tool called a feeler gauge remove the valve covers and one by one bring the cylinders up to top dead center (both valves are fully closed at this point) adjust to factory spec. All adjustments are done cold. If engine is very high miles reduce the clearances in specs by slight amount (.002") to the tight side to account for wear in the valve train parts.

Oil pump been replaced, knock senser and oil sending unit. oil light comes on and load ticking ,when its cold started on my 98 nissan altima

Go back to where you got the work done if you can.If not then i would get the oil preasure checked as the low light tells me the preasure is below 8 psi and the ticking is from the lash adjustors at the tappets verifys low preasure too.

How do I set the timming on a 1400 Nissan sentra 1998 model

This is for a 1998 nissan sentra 1.4 engine, start engine and allow to reach operating temp.then turn engine off and disconnect throtle postion sensor connector.

With tps sensor disconnected start engine and increase idle to 2000 rpm three times then release and allow it to idle.

now check timing, timing should be at 6-10 degrees BTDC. adjust as needed then turn key off and reconnect tps .

There is a tick tick engine sound when first starting. Alfter warm up it stops. Is this a serious lifter problem, or something more minor. What are some solutions?

Check your oil level before doing anything else. When the oil is low or in need of changing the tappets will make a clicking noise in many vehicles. The clicking usually stops when the oil reaches them.

Engine ticking

that is the lifters or tappets doing that due to they could be warn out or also you have a slack oil pick up when the sound fades it means oil has reached them you will have to see a machanic to fix them around $150 to $220.
