I'm told both lines are together and both must be replaced at the same time, also would take appros 4 to 5 hours. Is this correct.

Power steering tank full but still turning hard. 2001 chevy venture. Any ideas

With engine running, steering turned hard right or left, can you see the fluid churn in the power steering reservoir? If not, maybe one of the power steering lines is blocked?

I just wanted to add, with some makes and models. With everything off, I remove the power steering belt. I take the return line loose from pump, aim into container, rotate the pulley by hand, see if any fluid comes out of return line? The return line should be low pressure, usually held to pump by hose clamp. The high pressure line has threaded fittings.

Power steering line leaking?

Some pressure lines use an installation technique that if not followed properly will leak even though tight. Take it to an accredited power steering specialist shop to have the problem fixed..

I have a power steering fluid leak but not coming from pump. It appears to be coming from something located on the upper part of the fire wall.

It is likely the high pressure power steering hose is leaking. Put the car on a car lift to confirm this is the problem, the line is very difficult to replace for an amateur home mechanic.

1999 mercury cougar power steering leak

it depends if it is your high pressure or low pressure line if it is the high pressure line you can purchase at an auto parts store for about $60-$70. If it is your low pressure line good luck finding a replacement. But what I did that cost me about $5 was buy a gas line that fit and a couple clamps and I cut out the section with the leak and installed the gas lin in its place. But remember you can only do that simple fix with the low pressure line.

Power steering tank wont hold fluid and leaks out beside driver tire

Sounds like a blown power steering line. To confirm, wipe down all surfaces around the power steering unit including the lines. Replace the power steering fluid and start the engine. While 1 person is inside the truck, have them turn the wheel from side to side while another watches the area around the power steering unit paying very close attention around the lines. The high pressure line is the most common cause for leaking fluid. If there's no crack or kink in the line, the issue may be the fitting itself where it connects to the power steering pump. Both parts are pricey but replacing the high pressure line (about $150 at the dealer) is certainly less expensive than replacing the whole power steering unit itself.

Leak in hose at what looks like a sensor or electrical connection in the hose running from resevoir to steering.need to know wut this part is please, to try n replace it and stop leak.thank you for any...

Sound like it is the high pressure power steering line that is leaking, or low pressure line. I would take it to Advance Auto tell them to look at what is leaking they will sell you the part needed. he high pressure line cost more then the low pressure line.

Power steering leak

It's a bit difficult to remove the high pressure line. There isn't much room to get to where the line attaches to the rack and pinion. Just not much room to work on the newer cars.

Power steering fluid leaking pretty good on 2005 chevy impala. not from pressure line ithink. any clues

The power steering pump is belt driven. It is on the engine where you put fluid in. There are two lines that run from the power steering pump to the power steering rack on the firewall. The fluid can leak from the pump, either of the lines or the rack itself. If you are handy you may be able to repair the problem by replacing the bad part. Wear safety glasses when looking for the leak and do not touch the fluid leak when the engine is running. The pressure is high enough to hurt you. If you ignore the problem you will eventually loose the power assist and may be unable to steer the car. Fix it now!

One line is high pressure and the other is a return line. Check them with the engine off and when you think you've found the leak staret the car and look for the leak. If it sprays like a water hose DO NOT TOUCH THE LEAK. The pressure is high enough to cause serious injury.
