It can be achieved by laying under the front of the car and tripping the hood latch manually ...replaced those cables many of times and opened many hoods that way

Ford Ranger 2007 hoodlatch only works if the vehicle is switched on...

You can add power by plugging a socket into your lighter hole and connect that to an external battery. I used the wiring of my "car vacuum cleaner" designed to work off the lighter. Connect, switsh ignition on and pull relese. There is enough power to activate latch.

I cant get the hoodlatch on my 91 chevy prism to release

if it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

Hood latch is broken

This is not easy, I'll tell you this up front. If it were you'd be missing your battery in the morning....lol. First, you've got to go to a crafts shop or hardware store and find a piece of solid metal rod with a 1/16th diameter and 30 inches long. At one end you want to bend an "L" shape the width of a pair of vicegrips teeth. At the other end you want to wrap the rod around your hand, as best as possible(this will become your handle). With a good small flashlight in one hand and the rod in the other, lie one the ground and look up underneath the bumper towards the hoodlatch at the top of the radiator support. Within this area you'll see a small part of the pull cable. where this connects to the mechanism you want to pull it towards the drivers side fender. Your hood should now pop to the saftey latch position. open the hood and get your release cable replaced asap. Thank you, Dana. P.S. don't get discouraged, this takes patience and some time.

The cable broke which opens the hood in my 1994 Lexus LS400. What is the best way (least expensive) to replace this cable? Thanks

if it broke with hood open its not going to be hard to replace it.first you go to auto parts place or dealership buy the cable feed it through the floor board to the hood where cable goes. if hood cable broke with hood down its going to be hard to see or get to the hood open mechanism.through the radiator open under neath the front bumper.

Hoodlatch is doesn't stay shut for Toyota Corolla 1993

Before you replace it, are you sure that it is broken? Most of the time, the release mechanism rusts, and sticks in the "open Position". Spray it down with WD-40, and look at the latch closely. Look at the driver side, and see if the release cable is retracted. Using a long screwdriver, pry the release cable back out. It just may be seized up.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice.
