Question about 1999 GMC Jimmy

Truck won't start and died while driving

I have a 1999 jimmy. Since i've had it, if you just start and try to drive, it won't go, like it's out of gas. While it's idling, there is a very strong smell of gas. Yesterday while driving, it just died but did not lose power. Today, it will turn over, but won't start. Additionally, the gas gauge says full all the time. Code says it's O2 sensor. could that cause these problems?

Likely the O2 sensor is seeing an overly rich fuel mixture and since it's beyond its range it is throwing a code. I don't remember ever seeing an O2 sensor shut off the engine. I'd look over the fuel pressure regulator temp sender and throttle position sensor. Possible one of those is sending mis-information and causing rich condition. There are other items that can do this as well but only go there if you strike out with what I suggested.

You may have a bad injector system and a bad O2 sensor now. It's common for the fuel injector system in the 4.3 to go bad. There are puppet valves that get dirty and worn and leak fuel causing a rich mixture and the fuel pressure regulator has been know to also leak in to the manifold causing the engine to run rich. Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60psi to 65psi when the key's are turned to the run position and you lose about 5psi when the engine is running. When you check the fuel pressure with the engine not running, time the rate of pressure lose. It should not drop fast when you turn the ignition off, the pressure should hold for sometime. If there is a rapid drop then you have a leak in your system somewhere, most likely the fuel pressure regulator. Good luck and hope this helps, and as for the O2 sensor, you have ( 3 )  O2 sensor so check the wire harness to the sensor and replace the bad sensor. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

It could be the O2 sensor or the fuel pump/sending unit

Iwas driving my 1999 alero n it studdered for a second. I gave it some gas nand managed to drive one block before it died. I tried to start it but it won't start it turned over but that is all it did

Look for a light on the dash that says SECURITY after it doesn't start. These cars and many more GM's have had problems with the antitheft system. Parts in the system tend to fail and cause this "no start" situation. Symptoms range from stalling while driving, to starting for 1-5 seconds and then stalling. This link might help you if this ends up being your problem.

When trying to start my 1999 GMC Jimmy I turn the egnition and all my aux. lights turn on and everything works, but there is no power going to my starter, it doesn't make the clicking sound and it...

check for power to starter solinoid, if power to there. then it has to be a bad starter solinoid or starter. checker solinoid first. if bad you will not hear any clicks or anything.

Try to unplug the mass airflow sensor and start it. It will idle higher but should run fine. If it works then you need a MAF sensor. Be sure you have an OBDII code puller to clear the computer when done
