did you change any tires? if the circumference of the tires are more than 1 inch difference from each this will cause the 4wd to try to engage because it sees a difference in wheel speed

DIsconnext and reconnect the linkage at the transmission. You may want top replace the linkage cable all together. Make sure you set the parking break and block the tires

Is there anyway to flat tow my 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT. with no 4 wheel drive?

Hello Poca Buchanan,

WRONG.

Your "rental" FOLKs do NOT know of what they speak.

Your owners manual... Pages 192 & 246 both confirm... that your vehicle can be towed... and the SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES.

Drive wheels can only be towed in EMERGENCIES...
NOT to exceed 35 miles per hour...
Not to exceed 50 miles...!!

~~
If the drive wheels are off the ground... REGULAR TOWING PRECAUTIONS SHOULD APPLY.

(lets say a rear wheel drive... if the REAR WHEELS are on a carrier... you should be all PEACHES (reverse tow)).

If you cannot limit your distance or speed... and drive wheels are ON-THE GROUND...

Your DRIVE SHAFTS should be removed to protect the transfer case and/or transmission (by an AUTHORIZED FORD TECHNICIAN).

If you require assistance or clarification on Ford Motor Company policies or procedures, please contact the Ford Customer Relationship
Center at 1-800-392-3673 (FORD)

Hope this helps!!

I have a 97 ford explorer xlt. im not sure if it

I would pull the transfer case
Strip it & replace what is needed
& go from there, after reinstall

I would never install a used part
until it stripped it.

My transfer case is need to be repaired.

it sound like you have a broken pinion shaft in between the converter and the gears. the only solution is to have your transmission repair by reputable repair shop. but before you do that check your fluid level smell the fluid check for burned smell if it is then you really have to have to bring it to the shop for repair.
