Question about Volkswagen New Beetle

1 Answer

The airbag of the car deployed and do not want to put in a new one but the airbag light is always on so how do you turn the light off or condemn it? Where is the airbag control unit located? At times the check engine lights up and is on for a couple of days and at times it turns off by itself without doing anything,

yes, the man with the laptop did clear the error message and light of the check engine turned off but it came back after a couple of days and the guy said it was because of the airbag module that already deployed which the airbag light has been on eversince its deployment.

You need a man with a laptop and some software to hack into the EMU to sort out the error messages.

Re: Air Bag

In view of the fact that you are trying to defeat a safety feature of the car you may find that a lot of them will not take it on

The engine light and the airbag one are two different fault codes

If the engine light comes on the first thing we look at is the Lamba Sensor in the exhaust line as they tend to become intermittent and can trip on and off

The air bag one can be masked within the software so that it does not show but that is not strictly legal as you could sue the man who masked it if you were in an accident and got hurt because the airbag was not working

The peopel who write the software are under an obligation to make sure that faults are not ignored

Airbag deploy

To deploy an airbag you have to put the vehicle into high g manouver like a collision. And after that the vehicle is damaged. Why do you want to deploy the airbag? You can remove it as a single unit, but the vehicle airbag warning light will then stay on all the time. Why would you want to remove it?

Epc light vw beetle came on and also the airbag light and brake light

It would appear that your new purchase has been involved in an accident of some sort. As a general rule, the only time a airbag light or a ABS, (anti-lock braking system), lights will come on and remain on, is if there is a malfunction within the specific safety systems. You can attempt to repair the airbag yourself, but it is recommended that you take it to a professional. (If the airbag has not already deployed, chances are you will activate it if you are unaware of the proper handling procedures. (The deployment of an airbag can cause serious bodily harm).
As for the anti-lock system, start with the speed sensors at each individual hub or axle assembly. (Depending on the # and location). They can be checked by using a ohm meter across either wires and spinning the individual component. (Wheel). You should see a signal change from faster to slower. As with all automobile systems: ALWAYS check power and grounds).

I am trying to reset the srs light on my 1996 Mitsubishi colt. I have replaced the airbag and rotary switch(springs behind wheel) but cannot seem to locatate my airbag ecu. Where is the location of my...

If the airbag has been deployed, is is necessary to REPLACE the airbag (SRS) ECU. It is located below the center console. (See picture) It must be replaced because on your vehicle, it contains the crash sensors. If you do not replace it and hook-up new airbags and turn the key on, the new airbags will immediately deploy. There is no way to "reset" it.

Front impact crash & airbag did not diploy

Airbags have specific criteria for deployment that determines whether impact was severe enough to deploy bags or whether only 1 stage deployment is needed or may decide impact was minor enough that deployment of airbags could potentially be more dangerous than the actual impact. For instance I was on the expressway last year going 65mph and someone rear ended me at over 100mph. Totaled my Ford Focus, her airbag did not deploy. Over certain speeds depending on the vehicle calibration, and airbag should never deploy. With an impact under a designated speed or over a designated speed a deployment can be dangerous. As long as your airbag light was not on before the crash I'd say your system was working properly and did not malfunction. If your airbag light ever comes on just keep in mind that any airbag malfunction will disable the system and turn on the light

I would put those questions to a Hyundai dealer service department, would not cost a dime to make the phone call. If my airbag light was on, I would suspect a problem with it that could cause it to deploy for no reason, or to not deploy when needed, neither would be an acceptable situation. Hence I would get it checked by a trained technician as opposed to consulting with an oracle.

Sounds like your mechanic installed something per your request. Unfortunately, you have to order the specific part for your vehicle or the light will stay on because the vehicle computer is not detecting a secong airbag.
