no, it cranks normally. I get a code 42 when making the check engine light flash. I have read every possible thread on the 42 code. My friend even got a new asd relay, no chnge. if I hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor, it will barely idle, and that is rough and shakes the car. the injectors are clicking when I hold a screwdriver to my ear and put it against the injector while the owner is holding the pedal, so it will idle. THere is spark, but I read another site and it says to buy a spark tester to ensure theres enough voltage at the plug. I mu

it sounds like the timing belt is a tooth or two off. You will have to remove the timing cover. Being a car newer than 1996 it will also have a four digit code( it will look like P0000) stored in the computer. you should find out with a scan tool what codes are in it.

Sorry, computer froze while entering comment. Yes, tomorrow I am going to buy a scanner. If my friends keep driving cars falling apart, that real mechanics won't touch, I can probably save myself lots of time. I do enjoy the challenge. I am not however going to enjoy taking the timing cover off this 99 dodge neon! the only reason I have hesitated with the timing belt, is when I put in the new fuel pump as told to him by a garage, it wouldn't start. so of course I took the line lose at the injector rail. when he cranked over the engine so I could check the flow rate, the car ran smoothly at a fast idle on just the gas remaining in the rail! I know, WHAT! I hooked the line back up, no run or even idle with the gas held to the floor. So, less pressure, runs. normal pressure, don't run. Today, it doesn't do that. I think, the scan tool will give us more info. I will post after I get it. Thank you for the help so far!

Car wont start

Does it have spark at the spark plugs. If it has spark is it getting gas. Try spraying a little starting fluid in it, does it try to start? Then it isn't getting fuel. Is the fuel pump running when the ignition is first turned on? Fuel pump relay, fuse, fuel pump itself. Just telling you some things to check so people can give a better informed answer.

Wont start

Take a plug wire off hold the metal part near a good ground, and have somebody turn the key, while you hold it with something isolating you from the wire, like rubber handled pliers. observe for bright blue spark, no spark? Then you have a problem.

Ok i have a 1999 hyundai accent wont start changed fuel pump and it started ran very bad very! turned it off wouldnt start back up again checked spark plugs no spark and no power going to fuel pump we are...

Changing the pump doesn't affect the spark so lets start a that the beginning?? Why was the pump replaced and was it running fine before changing the pump? Also plugs could be fouled as well but if it was working fine before the fuel pump it will be fine afterwards if getting gas and the fuel pump was the problem., Also how did you verify no spark??

My 91 mitsubishi gto wont start and strong smell of fuel

Start by making sure you have spark to the spark plugs. If not you may have a problem with the plug wires or coil. It's also possible you're not getting gas to the engine possibly from a faulty fuel pump.
If you change the fuel pump be sure to replace the fuel filter also.
