It can be done but only if you know how, you must remove the mount bolts and frame bolts and slide out the mount to replace, it's a job that you would need help with a friend who is a mechanic

Symptom was drivetrain warning light & after warmed up transmission would rev up to 4-5000 rpm but not shift into gear for passing or climbing hill.

Hi from what you sied it seems like it dose need doeing.
I would ask for a brake down of how much the parts are,
I have resently just done my own cars (clk) auto gear box transmission oil and filter and gasket wich came ruffly to about seventy pounds,if I was to replace the valve body then that would of cost me another one houndred pounds,
so thats one houndred and seventy pounds if that is the only work being done then thats alot to charge for labour.
well all the best.

Could the shift gear have been broken off my 2001 saturn after rear-end collision

yes, replaced the "shifter" and you should be fine, needs a mechanic though to do

Replacing gear shift sylenoid

The mechanic thinks that changing parts at your expense will make the problem(s) go away. In reality, discovery of "bad wiring" is part of the probable cause analysis that should precede parts replacement.

I am told I need to replace my shift solenoid, V8 LS 2005 I just had 6 coils replaced, sparks and wires. what does this mean, and how urgent is it.

Just want to remind you Lincolns have a 6 Year, 70,000mile Warranty on the Engine and Drivetrain. Your shift part is a Drivetrain component.

Sometimes the "Slang" used in describing a problem is too vague. The shift solenoid can refer to the part that locks the gearshift until you put your foot on the brakepedal to start your vehicle. It is important but less important than the "shift solenoid" that makes the correct gear work inside the Transmission.

The first part is an "Interlock" solenoid and the second part is what times the gear changes. I do not know why you needed the coils, sparks and wires, but a bad solenoid will give you bumps in the Drivetrain similar to sparkplugs missing out.

The onboard computer of your car would generate a Code and identify the cylinder that is misfiring. It is very possible to replace just the 1 bad component since most of the new engines can go 100,000 miles without new plugs.

Took the cover of gear shift inside car, little spring popped out. Replaced but now car will not pick any gears up at all, appears to remain in neutral although feels like its going into gear.

SOUNDS pretty simple. remove the cover one more time and inspect that the end of the shifter has properly seated in the shift fork. what repairs were made. just a leak? slop? that little spring is just to keep tension.

Transmission going bad?

popping out of gear means your shifting forks need adjustment, same as the grinding. the tranny is probably good, just the top part, the shifting mechanism needs to be repaired, so it would be cheaper to repair than rebuilding the whole transmision.still, im guessing about 300-500$ depending where you live.

Gear shift difficulty moving/gear shift stuck in 1st gear

First of all, I need to know whether you will be working on a lift or on jack stands as this will determine if you will just drop the transmission or have to pull the entire engine and then pull the transmission.

Heres what you should do before getting started.

1. Get a Haynes manual from the local AutoZone or any autoparts store.
2. Get to know your local Dodge 5 star dealer phone number as it will be helpful on quick on the fly questions if you need to talk to a mechanic or need to order parts.

Once you answer my first question, then I will let you know where to start, the haynes manual will also be very helpful with pictures while you are working if you get stuck.
