Disconnect battery cable. The keyed ignition switch itself is probably bad.

Key won;t turn and steering wheel and brake are locked - ??

Sounds like your steering wheel is turned to either direction causing the pin to be stuck due to the pressure. Turn the steering wheel to the direction it seems to be turned. Hold that position while turning the key. It might require a little muscle power to hold it in place.

Key gets stuck in ignition of my 1997 GMC Jimmy can't remove until I hear a click. It does this once in awhile. It sounds like a timer has it locked, when I hear the click only then I can remove the the

The steering wheel lock pin is probably not falling into place. Try some lock lubricant and jiggle the wheel back and forth a little bit. If that does not do it, you will have to take out the lock tumbler and free-up / lubricate the steering column lock pin mechanism.

What should we do?

Hi there,
There is a (silly) safety lock on the ignition to stop it starting in gear, or the key being removed if not in park, and a sensible safety lock on the gear shift to stop kids letting it roll down a hill. Try putting your foot firmly on the brake, press the park release button beside the gear shift, while pulling the shifter out of park and back into park.
Getting the key out: Sometimes the steering wheel is placing pressure on the steering lock and key release mechanism, so try turning the steering wheel in any direction it can go while trying to release the key. It should come only out when you are in park.

I have a 95 camaro, I put the key in ignition and it will not turn the ignition. It's like it's stuck. Replaced the ignition module and still cannot turn ignition. Help!

the ignition module (ignition switch on top of the steering column) normally doesn't get stuck.

things you can try:
steering wheel lock: (the pin gets a "burr" on it and locks everything up) wiggle steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn key.

transmission lock (parking on an incline will jam up the interlock)
push the shifter farther into park while trying to turn the key, or wiggle shifter

How do I replace the ignition switch. Key in place, will not turn back to the off positiom, stuck in run. 1993 Chev Silvarado

It is held in with a bolt. You need to remove the steering wheel, lock plate, and turn signal switch to gain access. You will need special puller for the steering wheel and a special tool for removing the lock plate.

My key is stuck in the ingnition i found this little switch that is locking it in place, when i disconnect the switch my key comes out,can i leave that device disconnected?

Normally when a component of the ignition is disconnected it disables the steering. If the steering works and the car starts without it, it should be fine.

How do you replace the ignition lock cylinder for a 1972 Corvette? The cylinder is stuck in the lock position and even with the key inserted it will not turn, thus locking the steering wheel and vehicle in...

Try and turn the wheel from side to side while turning the key as it may be jammed on the locking pin... If that's a no go then you must remove the steering wheel and signal switch to access the screw that holds the cylinder in place. If you must remove the wheel go to a parts store and buy a lock plate installer to remove the circlip that holds the lock plate compressed.
