Do a system pressure test.there could be a leak in a hose or a seal.does it still want to overheat or weird changes in the temperature gauge ?

I am guessing here so be nice with your thumbs up for me please. Have you checked the transmission fluid level. Rember that when doing so the dip stick measures in pints and not quarts, Let me know. I have some other ideas too. Raz

sounds like you have a leaking heater core. If there is a stong smell of coolant in the drivers compartment, and there are no leak under the car this is most likely the cause.

How do you know that your water pump on a 97 acura 2.2 cl needs to be change and how do you go about changing it?

The only reasons to change it is A: it leaks or B: the bearings are bad, or C: Replace it whenever you replace the timing belt. Dont try this unless you are experienced working on engines and you have the tools and knowledge to replace the timing belt, and water pump.

1997 Acura Cl will not start but everything else works

Try disconnecting the battery cable again, but leave it off for at least 10 minutes. That will reset the computer, not sure if it will help w/ theft system though. Good Luck, Also try locking and unlocking the driver door w/ the key (not a remote) this may work.
