SOURCE: coolant sensor location

On the 98 2.4 the coolant level switch is located on the bottom side of the coolant recovery tank. The switch contains a reed switch and a magnetic float. When the coolant level is normal, the float rests away from the reed switch, causing the switch to be open. When the coolant level decreases in the coolant recovery tank below a specified level, the float rests on the reed switch and the switch closes, illuminating the LOW COOLANT light.

the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.
good luck

check the radiator cap if the rubber seal is dry rotted or torn this will cause the radiator to not build pressure properly so the fluid can flow properly.also check to make sure there is no air in the system.please rate this

06 pt cruiser turbo replaced radiator test drove and coolant was leaking found black wire to fan not connected radiator won't fill after 8oz it leaks out

So you drove the vehicle with the power to the fan and it overheated and was discharging coolant?

After you have drained coolant and then refilled, you have to 'burp' the system to remove airlocks. There are videos if you Google 'burping vehicle radiator'. Basically you run the vehicle from cold with the radiator cap off and add coolant as the level drops. When the thermostat opens the level will rise and fall. There is a gadget that you can fix to the top of the radiator cap that you fill and the level is maintained. You can help the process by squeezing the lower and upper radiator hoses. The system must be full of coolant with no air. Then you turn the engine off, top up one last time, replace the cap and then top up the reservoir.

How do you replace the coolant temp sensor on a R56 cooper

This coolant temp sensor is located at the top right rear of the engine. If you are standing in the front with hood open it will be to your right at rear of the engine.
Depending on if the car is supercharged or not the sensor is in the same area, the only thing between the two is if its super charged you will need to remove the air inlet and turbo hoses to gain room to get to sensor.
This is easy to replace, just unplug the connector and then using a socket remove the sensor. Note: this should be done with a cold engine , and a pan will be needed under the car to caught coolant that will flow out.
Keep radiator cap on to limit the amount of coolant that runs out when sensor is removed. have new sensor ready to install as quick as you can to avoid lots of coolant loss.
When done, fill coolant as needed. good day.

Engine over heating. Does not appear to be losing coolant. Tried to see if fan running but didn't get it hot enough in the garage to see if that is working, however if I switch on the air conditioner the...

the engine coolant temperature sensor may be faulty and stuck in the cold mode (or disconnected or faulty wiring to the sensor). If the engine computer thinks the engine is cold it won't signal the fan relay to turn on the engine cooling fan. the engine coolant temp sensor is not the same sensor that sends information to the coolant gauge on the instrument panel. The ECT sensor has two wires going to it and the coolant temp sender has only one.

Engine cooling fan run all the time when car is running. had t stat replaced recently. what controls the fan relay?. unplug coolant sensor and fan stays running. need a wiring diag.

Hi, the relay is turned on by the PCM based on data from the coolant temperature sensor. Disconnecting the sensor sends the computer into safe mode so it keeps the fan on. Check the sensor wire continuity to the PCM. If good, try replacing the sensor. Please let me know if you have more questions.
