Question about 2008 Ford Taurus SEL

Charge Had an issue with the battery being dead, got a jump and it was fine for a few days. Got out of work today and it started hard so I let it run for a while and drove home. After being home for a while I went to start it and it was dead. Had to get a jump. Had battery and charge system tested at local advance auto and everything passed and nothing was draining the system. I'm at a loss and can't depend on it now.

From personal experience alternators can test good when you take them off your vehicle and carry into a parts store. if when the car is running and you take the negative cable off the battery and it dies, than you know the alternator is bad. never remove the positive when running or before the ground post. had an 05 kia serento doing the same thing. replaced alternator and fixed the problem

Check the battery +12v power connection to the starter is in good order,
Check the ground connection between the battery negative and the engine/starter motor is robust and intact.
If no problem with above, replace the starter motor.

The diode inside the alternator is getting weak. The charging system is for a direct current as you may know (DC) when a diode gets weak or goes completely dead the charging system is conveted to an alternating current same as your house current works. When a vehicle charging system looses its DC current the battery will not charge through the alternator. To check and see if your alternator has a faulty diode do this with the ENGINE RUNNING. Take a volt meter with its setting on the DC MODE and touch the probes to the corect terminals of the battery. You should get a reading of voltage. Remember the reading as displayed. Now Remove the probes and switch the setting to AC mode then reverse the probes + to Negative & - to the Positive. If the readings display the same your diode is shot

before u decide the battery has an outside draw on it have the battery load tested, Kragen, Autozone and many other parts stores do this for free, when a battery is run dead like this it can develop a shorted out cell and this causes an internal draw, after u have verified the battery is good the next thing to do is go out at night and look for any lights that may be on in the interior, if u have lighted visor vanity mirrors make sure those are not on as well, also check consoles and glove box lights and cargo light for the bed.

I went to start my 92 lumina and it wouldn't start... the battery was dead, so I jumped it with a jump box and it was fine... I drove it to the store and back. 2 days later the battery was dead again...


first you half to determine if the alternater is working. you do his by jumping the car and while its running take of the neg cable off to the car if it dies then you know the alternater is not working properly,
if it stays running you know you have a electricalen short you half to trace down

Even a new battery will go dead if the car is running on the battery instead of the alternator.
Check alternator output.
First charge the battery up.
Then check voltage with a meter from Harbor Freight ($3).
Should be 12.5.
The start engine and rev it up.
Should go over 14.
But also clean and grease battery terminals, alternator terminals, and check engine ground strap.

Dead battery after a few day not starting truck? jump start truck work fine good for a few day then dead battery again?

It could very well be a defective battery, you could have 1 or more bad cells in the battery. A voltage regulator or an alternator. If it isn't one of those then there is something drawing power from somewhere that is causing it to go dead.

Has the stereo been changed recently? If not move to the cigerett lighter. These two are most likely the prob. But you could have a bare wire anywhere grounding out. Good luck and hope you find it.
