Can bad speed sensor prevent truck from starting ,and where on transmition is it located

the short answer is no, something else may be amiss. The speed sensoe on the transmission will only control the transmissions shifting characteristics not the engine starting.

3.0l engine. OK when cold. When it warms up, why does it miss and flatten out under load?

Sorry to say, If you had the work done at a shop. shops just don't give your new, remanned,or used motor or transmission the best shot at living a long or extended life. Unless new. But ts is still marginal.

I have a 2005 chevy aveo 5 speed that I just tuned up and changed the battery but the motor just spins and will not crank

This is trouble shotting - You are saying that when you turn on the car with the key to the ignition that the engine motor starts up but when you put the transmission into the first gear that your car is not going forward which tells me that your problem happens to be in your transmission linkages. You can check the transmission fluids to see if it has any fluids when your car running and is hot enough to check the fluids.

Truck quit running, is getting fuel, spark, timing is dead on, local shop said it may be crank pos sensor or cam pos sensor, where are they located/

Very possible. I would check the sensor with a meter. I would say it most likely the crank shaft sensor. Some are located behind the pulley area and some are located at the back of the engine where the transmission meets the engine. Good Luck

Likely the transmission is shot-- but check fluid level first ,if okay--then have checked at repair shop

I own a 2001 Cadillac DHS. The "SERVICE ENGINE

p0071 is the ambient temp sensor which is located by the hood latch behind the grill. They have the yendency just to go bad and you can replace the part for about 30.00 dollars. The dealer is usually higher than a transmission shop. It requires removing the engine and transmission at the same time which means removing the complete frame. A smaller shop may be able to beat the price if you can find one that works on caddies. Some will and some won't. I would shop around.

Replacing rear main seal

To do this you can remove transmission in place, and get access from there, or you can take engine and transmssion out and do it that way..........either way you do it, i would suggest checking the clutch or torque converter whilst it is out

It sounds like the engine and transmission needs to be recalibrate to one another. I good transmission shop with a tech 2 scanner can fix this if it's not a mechanical problem. Here is 101 transmission in a few words that i hope can help you. The Throttle position sensor (TPS) sends signals to the ECM and calculate with the transmission turbine sensor (VTS)the amount of transmission line pressure which is controlled by the transmission line pressure servo. The pressure line servo controls the firmness of the shift and the TPS with the VTS controls the shift points. If the ECM is not calibrated or a senor is reading bad your going to have problems with the transmission like you have and will have a major failure within 6 month due to burnt clutch packs, so check your transmission fluid for leave and condition. It should be bright red and not dark like burgundy which would indicate burnt clutch packs. If there is a good transmission shop or you have warranty on your transmission, have them do a transmission line pressure and scan the ECM for any DTC codes. IF your out of warranty, find a good speed shop who can read and reprogram your ECM so you can have your engine and transmission running 100% Good luck and hope this helps.
