Are you sure of the firing order,if that is not correct or your timing is off because the crank timing marks are not inline then it will never start until you correct this.Other than that you really did not give enough information,could be a dozen other reasons.Generally speaking if you have spark and fuel you should get fire.The fact that you are flooding you plugs out could simply mean that there is no spark present .

you now need to check for 12 volt power, and signal to the coil, also be sure all you timing marks are correct, if you have no spark, unplug one of the injectors and using an led test light check for injector pulse power across the two terninals while cranking, if you have no injector pulse then you could have a problem with the ignition passlock system, or key decoder

I been turning the engine over a lots but i don't smell any fuel shouldn't the engine be flooded by now? there is no spark at the spark plugs.

run fault codes and check for immobiliser , cam/crank position sensor and broken timing belt/chain ( check that the cam shaft is turning). Check ING fuse has not blown

What happened when it stopped running in the first place? You might want to verify the cam/crank position if you can. If you jumped a tooth or have a stretched belt, you are going to have valves open when you are supposed to be firing off on the compression stroke. A compression tester on the number one cylinder would be one way to test it, or a leak down tester.

If it sounds like it has no compression I would vote for the timing belt. Code 16 is for the cam and crank sensors being out of sync, and code 340 is no signal from the cam sensor. Which would happen if the cam is not turning.

Did you remember to reconnect your Cam Position Sensor after putting it all back together? One tooth off shouldn't have bent a valve (but pressure checking cylinder will answer that). Did you check TDC once the belt is tight?

Check the wiring that runs near the coil. There are a few thin wires in the group that become frail..move them around while someone is turning the key. You may be surprised.

96 intrepid not fireing have tried resetting the timeing no codes were found new coil pack all connections r good what do i do next


i got a1996 dodge intrepid 3.5 L .the spark plugs 1,3,2 works but 4,5,6 do not work. i changed the spark plug wires, the coil ,the crankshaft sencer and the camshaft sencer.what else could cause this not to start?

You should be able to remove the upper front forward cam-dust covers. With these out you should be able to align the cams to their timing marks. As for the crank you'll have to rely on the timing mark on the forward crank pulley/harmonic balancer.

01 Dodge Intrepid with 2.7l V6 turns over but won't start. Mechanic believes timing jumped adn advised motor is done...not worth fixing. Is this True? Can timing be reset? Scantool does not indicate...


The coils only power up during cranking check that first. If it sounds funny cranking,ie. cranks faster or slower than usual,then he's probably right about the timing belt. If it jumped the heads need to be replaced or rebuilt,both costly. Would be cheaper to put a used engine in.
