Question about 2001 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

My Sable has a misfire.

Seems it only happens when there's been torrential rain. Last time it went away after everything dried out. Not sure it will this time. Seems the electrics must be getting wet, any ideas?

What causes CEL to flash for 1/2 mile and then go off and then not start at all after rain but start when dry?

The check engine light flashes when there is a catalytic convert damaging advent happening , like for a sever misfire . When a vehicle has a misfire problem no combustion happens in that cylinder dumping raw fuel into the catalytic convert , were it burns causing the substrate to melt . To buy a new converter could cost up to a $1,000.00 bucks ! You don't say what make ,model an year vehicle you have , so I can't say what could be wrong ! Plug wires , coil's , distributor cap if yours has one . If you have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , You probably have a P0300 random misfire or a P0301 - to P0308 depending on the number of cylinders Check Engine Light On

Why is my Mercury 2002 sable still stalling out?

I went thru the same thing careful when it stalls on you starting it altot can burn out the starter/starter power wire or both. It also can catch fire. It is a vacuum leak. Have someone check all your lines to make sure there are no cracks breaks or dry rotten lines. Also check th all manifold for leaks or if its cracked because its plastic. Plus make sure your felpro gaskets are good they are orange and under the manifold

My cruise control will not engage. This happens mostly at higher speeds. But most of the time when I slow down to about 50 km per hr it will engage but not all the time

The cruise is fully electronic in theis car, you need the dealer to scan (a special tool) the system and ID the cause of the problem

When it rains or is wet out the car starts but idles funny, it sputters and sounds like the engine is choking or stalling. The problem goes away when the car warms up.

try new plugs, leads and caps, it sounds like the ignition spark is tracking and causing a misfire, moisture helps this happen, but there must be a crack or problem with the insulation

Engine light started flashing then it went out

Hello kwaite.

A flashing check engine light is indicating the engine is misfiring.
This can be caused by a bad spark plug, bad ignition wire, bad ignition coil, bad fuel injector.
If the symptom went away it could have been a possible dampness problem in the ignition system and disappeared when it dried.
If this is true then it will likely reappear the next time the dampness is there.
It may be time for a tune up.

An internal engine problem is a possibility but usually this type of problem does not go away.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a 1996 GMC 1/2 Ton Pickup, 4.3L V6, Auto, 2WD, that cuts out and sometimes won't start. The problem seems to be related to how much it has just rained several days straight and it was...

it would be something to do without wire harness housings, make sure all wire clusters are waterproofed, wrapped in tape or covered in plastic one or the other, make sure the contacts on your starts are covered up and check for any type of corrosion on all the contacts including spark plugs and distributor, tell me how everything works after doing that and i will help you from there

It has a problem that seams to be caused by moisture if it sits out in the rain and or fog for more than a day. The car will start but will be misfiring and engine will die unless you rev it up to 1,500...

Most likely cause is a crack in the distributor cap. This allows moisture to penetrate the cap and causing misfires and stalling. This would be the 1st place to check.

Water is leaking INSIDE my car

Well, the A/C drain may very well be clogged. What happens is, trash and leaves and such will fall into the fresh air vent outside the car eventualy making its way down into the air box, where the evap core is located. The evap core housing/ air box has a drain for the condensation from the evap core to drain. This drain gets stopped up from the dirt, leaves and trash, in turn causes the condensation to overflow into the car. One way to avoid this in the future is to run your A/C on the recirculated air mode, thast way your not pulling all the trash in from outside.

I have an 03 merc. sable. 58000 miles. drove 22 miles home from work parked and shut it off. went to leave 5 min later put in drive and it started to spit and shudder and then just died. 20 - 30 min later...

Start at Changing your sparkplugs wires (if you are performing this on your own replace one by one to prevent mix-up). If problem still persists, have coil pack checked or replaced. Hopefully this helps!!

2000 Grand Cherokee Dashboard leak

Maybe. If you have a fixed antenna on that side of the vehicle, the large rubber gromet on the wire leading into the passenger compartment may have come out, allowing lots of rain water to enter the vehicle. Happened on my 94 and flooded the passenger side.
