Are you referring to the rack and pinion steering assembly? If so, repairing or rebuilding this unit requires very specialized tools. Even auto repair shops do not fix these. We simply remove the defective unit and replace it with another good complete unit.
If you are asking how to replace this unit, that also requires special tools to remove the tie rods. You must also be very careful and know what you are doing or you can ruin the clock spring for the driver's side airbag. The shaft for the steering column is "phased" to the shaft on the pinion gear. You must be sure to keep the steering column and the new rack & pinion assembly in phase or you can do more damage to your truck. You will also need to take the truck to a shop for a front end alignment after you are done. If you think that you have the skills to handle this job, I would suggest you watch the videos I've linked. FYI, it will take a skilled mechanic with all the proper tools over 4 hours to do this job.

How How much does it cost to replace a front seal on rear differentual case on a 2010 250 4x4

If you are talking the rear pinion seal, it isn't too bad at all. You just have to drop the drive shaft, remove the pinion nut and pull the pinion, then knock out the old seal and hammer in the new one. Going back together is just the reverse but you have to torque the pinion nut to the specified setting. As long as you are not removing the pinion gear you do not need to worry about setting the rear end up or worry about the crush sleeve.

88 bronco2 pinion nut the torque

There is no set torque for a pinion nut, it is turned until the crush sleeve behind it exerts the correct "preload" on the front Pinion bearing. The crush sleeve must be replaced when the seal is replaced.

How do you remove the front rearend crown and pinion on 1997 gmc serria 4x4 1500 pick-up

That indicates a bad pinion bearing. On this rear end it is usually necessary to replace the ring and pinion gears as well as the bearings becasue when the pinion bearing goes bad it will spin on the pinion gear itself causing it to wear thus just replacing the bearing will not work because it will fit loose on the pinion gear and it needs to be pressed on tight. ---------- First the c-clips are to be removed from the pinion gears.-------- Click this link below and follow the detailed procedure:---- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-remove-rear-end-crown-and-pinion.html -------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I cant get the axle out of the front diff what is holding it in 2001 dodge durango

here is a diagram on how to get the front pinion seal out and it does mention how to get the axle loose. please do not forget to rate and comment about your experience with fixya today.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2. Remove both half shafts.
  3. Mark propeller shaft and pinion flange for installation reference.
  4. Remove front propeller shaft.
  5. Rotate pinion gear three to four times, to verify pinion rotates smoothly.
  6. Record pinion flange rotating torque with an inch pound torque wrench for installation reference.
  7. Hold flange with Holder 6719 and four bolts and washers.
  8. Remove pinion nut.
  9. Remove flange with Remover C-452.
  10. Remove pinion seal with a pry tool.

    67189-dako-g27.gif Pinion seal installer
    67189-dako-g26.gif Tightening the pinion nut
To install:
  1. Apply a light coating of gear lubricant on the lip of pinion seal.
  2. Install seal with Installer C-3972-A and Handle C-4171.
  3. Install pinion flange onto the pinion with Installer C-3718 and holder.
  4. Hold pinion flange with Holder 6719A.
  5. Install new pinion nut and tighten nut until there is zero bearing end-play.

CAUTION Do not exceed the minimum tightening torque when installing the companion flange at this point. Damage to the collapsible spacer or bearings may result.
  6. Tighten pinion nut to 271 Nm (200 ft. lbs.).

CAUTION Never loosen pinion nut to decrease pinion bearing rotating torque and never exceed specified preload torque. If preload torque or rotating torque is exceeded a new collapsible spacer must be installed.
  7. Record pinion flange rotating torque, with a torque wrench. Rotating torque should be equal to the reading recorded during removal plus an additional 0.56 Nm (5 inch lbs.).
  8. If rotating torque is low, tighten pinion nut in 6.8 Nm (5 ft. lbs.) increments until rotating torque is achieved.

CAUTION If maximum tightening torque is reached prior to reaching the required rotating torque, the collapsible spacer may have been damaged. Replace the collapsible spacer.
  9. Install propeller shaft with reference marks aligned.
  10. Install half shafts.
