during these early transitional years, they had 2 transmissions
the newer one is electrically shifted.

Wont shift into forward gears

If the cable isn't broken, and you can visually verify the the shift lever on top of the transmission is moving into the proper positions for the forward gears, then you have a major transmission problem. Only a professional transmission shop can help you. Check your fluid level first.

Mitsubishi Eclipse, 5 speed man. trans - Won't shift after driving 20 minutes...

indicates a problem in the spigot bush in the crank shaft
it is dry and when it heats up , it is seizing on the input shaft(clutch shaft) of the transmission
up shifting is fairly easy as the hear synchro's do the job along with correct engine rpm
down shift overloads the synchro action unless you increase the rpm to match the ration to road speed

Transmission won't shift into 3rd and 4th gear 90 toronado

If you can't fix this problem by adjusting the cable or the gear selector switch on top of the transaxle, then it's most likely an internal malfunction. You'll have to take it to a professional to have it diagnosed.

What is a rough shift

A rough shift is exactly what it implies. The shifting of gears should be a smooth transition. Rough shifting causes jerking, gear chatter, and undue strain on the components.

In Autoshift rought transistion

I am going to assume it is a 2001 - 2003 S60/V70 with geartronic.

There are several possibilities. One is that the software needs to be upgraded the the Transmissin Control Module. There were some problems with shift flaring and rough shifting.

Second, There are a couple of Technical Journals for hard shifting on those years. It could be the valve body, or a shift spring that has seperated from the base (the shift servo if I remember right) and is causing a hard shift.

Third is that the transmission itself is failing. 2001 was the first year for the 5 speed transmission and hasn't stood up as well as you would think. By 2003 they had worked out all of the bugs and they are once again almost bullet proof (that's of no help to you I know).

If you have a good extended warranty I would take it to a trusted mechanic or the dealer and have them look for said Technical Journals.

I hope this helps.

Car jerks a little when the transmission is shifting gears. It's a 1997 Honda Accord.

not sure how rought but traditionally, Honda's are known to shift rough... its kinda their sporty style. I think its funny that the Accord is considered a "sedan", when clearly is not a Taurus or Impala which are purely sedans.

cheers!
