The trans in your vehicle is a 4L30E.The check, and fill plugs are in the pan.The fluid has to be checked after the vehicle is fully warmed up,engine running,in Park. The hard to shift into 2nd gear is kind of difficult to say, check the level, maybe have it scanned for trouble codes esp. if check engine is lit. Those particular transmissions have one weak area, and thats the Low gear,or first gear band and drum. That causes a symptom of slip and chatter on takeoff from a complete stop.

i have same problem. get ready to pay around 2400+. as a matter of fact mine is in the shop right now. you cannot check the fluid yourself. it's up under the bottom. no dip-stick. its a joke, i have a 99 rodeo. will drive it long enough to get my 2400 out of it and then its a gonner !!!! sounds like it is going to create alot of problems if i keep it.

SOURCE: adding trans fluid in 2000 isuzu rodeo myself

With the car in Park - engine running at operating temperature on level ground - check the dipstick. You should see a grid on the end of the stick showing normal operating range. If it is low use a small funnel and pour the fluid into the dipstick tube. Don't overfill it.

94 isuzu rodeo wont shift outta 2nd gear

auto trans no less.. it shifts no you.
so what trans is there?
so reverse works, 1 gear, then 2nd , but not 3rd.
some have a TCM that does the auto shifts.
and must be scanned to see why it wont shift.
levels ok, that be like first first. done not like engine, ever.
do it correctly.
The TCM may have flash codes, the FSM factory serv. man. covers this, as does mitchells.but it will ask you
what engine you have, and which trans is car 4wd?
first know your drive train then ask.

I have a 2001 Souza rodeo goes backwards but will not go towards I got a 2001 Isuzu Trooper goes backwards but no forwards

automatic trans or stick, we cant guess that ever.....
drive, and Low dead. (hot and cold engine????)
so does it slip.?
slip means, you step on the gas and RPM races but car dont move. SLIPs. that is transmission
but of it dont slip that means the engine is weak..
if its slip?, check levels first.
if levels in box are ok (dont guess read how to )
then check shift linkage.
if that is ok, scan the PCM for tranny errors DTC.
if that is ok, do the FSM stated, line pressure tests..

How do you adjust transmission linkage on 2000 isuzu rodeo?

manual or auto
bet automatic. has this.

but really you don't need to read that.
cable off trans.end.
set the transmission to say, drive. position at the t actual trans manual shift lever on side of trans. (the PRNDL switch may be here)
count the detent clicks., (easy huh?) to drive PRND bingo there.
then attach the cable and get it to the Drive marker in the cab console.
the lock it all down.
the test all gears. park and neutral , in drive way, not on road yet.
if all ok, hit the road.

2002 isuzu rodeo sport .where is the shift solenoid?

You have two drain the trans fluid and remove the pan and it's inside the trans the pans kind of tricky to remove because of the four wheel drive

2001 Isuzu Rodeo Code P1290

BIG TIP-You can get at the tranny from above for some issues-
Checking fluid adding fluid and Lukas additive - attached to passenger wall under the hood there is a trans vent --black curved hose about 3" or so long- on same line as dipstick
about 3/4"D- twist it up if you pull it out its ok- it goes back and stays- I took a long twig
- twisted part of a white napkin - glued it (don't want it to break off inside- put it through the tube - it came out reddish - so don't change fluid/ filter- gon under (Yea)- Got a funnel with long neck to add fluid Lukas stuff . Got hand pump for $7-to remove some fluid to fit the Lukas- Hope this helps IT WILL

What type and how much transmission fluid do I put in my 2000 Isuzu Rodeo?

Well, what you do, is go down the road, there will be a man named Jeff, he's on the street that's exactly 5.1 kilometers from your home, make sure you go only down the road you are located on, then Jeff will give you a map, this map leads to a treasure that you have never even imagined!!! You follow the map to a far away desert, where you will dig a hole big enough to fit your Isuzu in. don't think I'm telling you to drive your car into it, far from it, but here you will see a brochure, on this brochure is a list of all the nearby mechanics that can, for free, tell you how much fluid to put in your car, and for a little money, can put it in for you and send you on your merry way to drive your NEWLY FULL OF TRANS FLUID ISUZU RODEO!!!

Hope it helps
(sorry for the intense sarcasm)

2001 Isuzu Rodeo Sport will not go forward in drive

whats the fluid smell like? when was the last time it was serviced? where is fluid on stick when hot? low on fluid could do what you discribed, but chances are trans needs rebuilt. if fluid smells burnt, rebuild or replacement.

How to change oil transmission isuzu rodeo 2003

There are two drain plugs on the bottom of the pan. remove the lower one to drain the trans fluid. To refill, use a pump and pump the fluid into the upper drain plug until it seeps out and re-install the plug, similar to refilling a manual trans.
Once this is done, Start the vehicle and run it for about 3 minutes, shifting through all gears (do not drive vehicle Remove the upper drain plug and let any excess fluid drain out. Done. This is as per Mitchell OnDemand.
