There is a cable that attaches to the inside door latch release handle. The plastic that retains this cable is most likely broken. I have seen this before. If the retainer is not holding the cable sheath correctly, the entire cable moves when the handle is pulled and does not release the door latch.
Remove the door panel and inspect this cable. You will see 2 cables (one is for the door lock). If the plastic is broken, you will need a new interior handle assembly.
Hope this is helpful!!

The problem is water getting into the boot switch and shorting out the contacts. A new boot switch is required which you can get from nissan for about £55. I have recently fitted one myself and its a very easy and quick job to do.

Hi there, this is a very common fault, you need to replace the drivers door actuator to stop the noise, ive done loads of these. hope this helps.

SOURCE: 54 Micra door panel removal
You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. If needed, you can pull back the weather seal (can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to access everything inside the door. It sounds like the linkage connecting the handle to the latch is not working (broken or slipped off)

SOURCE: drivers side door won't open
I have a 2003 nissan altima and the door has woked fine all night and now the door will not open from the inside. It is just a broken spring?
