I PUT A NEW STARTER in TODAY.bUT WHEN I WENT TO CONNECT THE BATTERY TERMANALS THE STARTER STARTS TO make WHINING SOUND

I can't look up info w/o year make model, wiring diagrams? Usually two voltage circuits at starter motor. One circuit comes from the battery hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the crank position. Use a test light and check those circuits, key off. The starter motor usually grounds through engine block. Any testing at starter motor, make sure tranny in park or neutral and parking brake is set.

This jag will start in any gear including reverse when the engine starts the Bendix does not go in starter continues to whine until taken out of gear rather put into gear

this statement is hard to understand as it is not logical
the engine will start in any gear--ok --- problem in the neutral/park switch
when the engine starts the bendix does not go in starter but continues to whine --exactly what do you mean --does the starter motor stay engaged in the ring gear after the engine starts or does it come out of engagement with the ring gear but continue to spin
as there is no connection between the gear selection and the starter motor can you explain the last part of tour statement

1999 Pontiac Sunfire 5 speed won't start. Replaced spark plugs and checked ignition coil (fine). Sounds like it wants to turn over but makes a "whining" noise. Please assist. Thank you!

Is the engine turning over with the key in the start position? If the engine is not spinning over and you hear a whining noise, the starter is not engaging the flywheel. If the engine is turning over with the starter engaged, the engine has most likely jumped time that creates low or no compression which results in the whining noise.

2004 Hiace 5L Diesel will not start, however whines when attempts are made to start.

The starter pinion gear is not engaging the ring gear on the engine.

Transmission whining

have you checked the transmissions fluid level, need to check it with the car running in park or neutral, on level ground. If its in neutral make sure the parking brakes are applied and the tires chucked to secure the vehicle and prevent rolling. Locate the dip stick for the transmission pull it out whipe it clean, then re insert it into the dip stick tube until it is fully seated, pull the dip stick out and look at the markings it should read more than half on the hot side.

The truck started just fine but the idle had a very loud whining/grinding sound to it. In park, drive, and reverse the noise continued. once in drive the engine died after about 50ft and now it just clicks...

it sounds like your starter soleniod was stuck on ,the sound you heard was the starter being driven by the flywheel.you may have two starter solenoids one on the starter which looks like a chevy and you may have one on the firewall or fender closest to the battery.you can use a test light to find out which solenoid is not working.you may have to remove the start and bench test the starter.

Wont start wont even turn over turn the dey and get a whining sound

You need to replace the starter. That whining sound is caused by a faulty solenoid in the starter which is responsible for meshing the starter gear with the gear on the engine flywheel.
