Rough idle It's idling rough. Drives fine, but have a rough idle when sitting still. What is it?

Sounds like a tune up will fix it. its must likely a bad spark plug or ignition wire

A flashing check engine light means you have a catalyst damaging miss-fire. you will need to get the fault codes pulled so you can see what cylinder/cylinders are causing the problem. Once you have this information a diagnostic path can be determined.

Your Idle Air Control Valve has gotton Carbon Build Up and needs to be cleaned. 75% of the time, you can clean them and they will work immediately but 25% of the time, you have to replace them but the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) is the same as a CHOKE on older cars... and it is just not adjusting the Fuel/Air Mixture correctly

Rough idle 95 astro van, I did a full tune up , plugs,wires,cap, rotor,air filter,and fuel filter and cleaned egr vavle.
I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.

I replaced fuel pump aprox. 2 months ago car ran fine then idle went up to 4000 rpm then i shut down tried to restart idle very rough let sit 1 hr. started and ran fine drove 10 miles or so turned off...

try turning ur idle up its the pin on the throtle body just make sure u tuen the engine off and on again fter each adjustment to reset ur computer on ur engine

Yes it could be a vacuum leak at the intake manifold, could also be the MAF sensor (especially if you use a gauze/oil air filter).

there are 2 things that usually cause this, one is a dirty intake idle control valve and the other is hard engine mounts, I would say that both most likely apply to your car. try cleaning the intake with the following procedure from Ford.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

upon restart, engine missing, shudders, acceleration in idle helps sometimes... it never misses going down the road, only on restart after 20 miles or more....no difference whether a/c is on
