Does a knock sensor sound like a rod knocking

Knock Sensor contains no moving parts and can not make any noise. It only detects noise in the engine block to allow the engine control computer to make adjustments as needed.

What can cause knock sensor to get bad on 2007 ford edge

Well the knock sensor does not make any noise. It senses the vibration in the engine if there is a spark knock to let the computer know to slow down the spark timing.
You probably have a weak piston or lifter or rod bearing making the noise.

There is a knocking sound in my engine

sounds like a rod is knocking, check oil to make sure it is full. If it has plenty of oil then if it checks out ok, you probable need new engine.

2000 Estima, 6 cylinder, makes a short whining noise on start up, also when placed into gear both forward and reverse - mainly when cold - makes a slight knocking sound that fades when you pick up speed,...

The whining noise at start up is either the power steering pump (possibly low fluid, or faulty pump bearing), or possibly a belt on the engine. As for the knocking sound, that is hard to diagnose without actually hearing it, but based on the fact that you are hearing a whining sound at start up, which is indicative of a loose belt, I would start at the belt tensioner and make sure that it is applying the correct amount of pressure on the belts. If the belt tensioner is faulty, it can make a knocking sound. If that is not the issue, then it could simply be the lifters. With engine run time/miles on the engine, internal engine components, such as lifters, valves, bearings and any moving part, deteriorate from friction wear and heat. They have a tendency to make a knocking/rattling sound when they are building up pressure. When they build sufficient pressure, or the engine reaches operating temperature, this sound/noise will dissipate and become nonexistent. This can be remedied by changing the oil, and possibly the weight of the oil (5w30, 10w40, 20w50) depending on your driving habits , or conditions (Highway v/s City/Stop&Go, or short trips under 30 miles)

I hope that you have found this information to be useful, and if I can be of any further assistance, please let me know. Thank you for using fixya!

Engine Knocking / No Power

Dosent sound good. Oil light on means you lost oil pressure. and the knocking sound is the damage done due to low pressure. Start looking for another engine or another van.

Knocking sound

Knocking sound is bad and most likely time for a new engine. The knocking noise your are hearing is the pistons knocking against the engine block when it goes up and down.

Inspect the level of your engine oil to make sure you have enough oil in there.

1997 LeSabre has engine "knock"

If it knocks at 50 it will knock sitting still if you race it up. Is the oil pressure good? These motors hardly ever have a bearing problem. The only knock problem was the harmonic balacer that comes apart and knocks. The rubber falls apart and it will make a knock sound all the time, more with the ac on. If you have a knock at 50 or highway speed only you may need a outer tie rod end only. Get the front end checked as they will make a knocking sound on the highway. reply

I have a 1995 Subaru Legacy, and it started making "knocking sounds". Ck the oil, it was OK

If the sound does not go away then the engine has internal problems. Some times if someone over revs the engine it will cause knocks. If the oil is not changed regularly and the engine gets hot due to low water, racing engine then engines dont last long.
If its a deep solid knock its a crank shaft bearing.
If its a lighter knock then some times if you remove the right plug wire and the knock goes away (of course the engine will run rough due to lost cylinder) its that pistons wrist pin bearing.
At any rate your engine will need rebuilt or replaced.Or get a different car.
