Try flushing the sensors with high pressure water (typically in a car wash). The cavities can become clogged with dirt and other undesirable debris.

Rear sonar not working on 07 maxima

To top off what Jason mentioned, I went a little further to find out how much it cost to repair/ replace the rear sonar speaker for my 08 Maxima at the dealership. The cost was an astounding $67.00 plus taxes and they had to order the part. After some time browsing the web, I came upon a site where the replacement part cost a total of $16.00 to include shipping and handling. The site is ( BeStar technologies inc) part number BMS3650l-P2-HT LF. Check it out for yourself. I comes with the black plastic casing, I simply pulled out the little speaker and placed into the casing of my 08 Maxima and it works great!

I would bet that your issue is not caused by a fuse. The fact that the "Rear Sonar OFF" lamp is on and won't turn off means that the system is in fail-safe. The system has sefl-diagnosis capabilities and has found a fault.

To enter the self-diagnosis, turn the key off. Depress and hold the rear sonar switch and while holding it in, turn the key on. You will see the lamp flash and may hear a beep from the warning chime. Release the button and push and release 5 times within 10 seconds. You should see the lamp flash and another beep. Push and release the button one time. This will display fault codes that are stored in the system. For example, if a code 12 is stored, you will see 1 flash, followed by a pause and followed by 2 flashes. If there aren't any other faults stored, this will repeat.

I have seen code 12 most frequently, being that the warning chime has failed. If this is the case with your vehicle, you won't hear the beeps that I mentioned earlier, but only see the flashing of the lamp.

If this is the case, you will need to replace the chime. It is located under the cover between the steering wheel and the windshield. There is a "hood" that faces toward the steering wheel and behind that is a cover that is held down with spring-metal clips. Get a small screwdriver or panel "popper" under this cover and gently pry it up. The chime is a small speaker directly under that cover and is bolted down with 2- 5.5 mm bolts.

Once you have repaired the fault, the system will automatically reset the self-diagnosis memory.

If you have other codes, you may have an issue with one or more of the sensors located in the rear bumper. I, however, do not know those code numbers off the top of my head.

I hope that you have found this helpful!

Rear sonar no sound when backing up, switch is lighting off.

More than likely it needs a new beeper. When the beeper fails the light on the sonar button will stay illuminated and the system obviously won't make any sound.
