Its probably your alternator i would start by testing that im pretty sure advanced can test it for you. also test your battery because when the alternator goes it will run off of your battery and drain it if that doesnt work out for you then your going to have to provide me with further symptoms

Replace your alternator its loose power and backfiring because you dont have enough voltage/amperage to run the pcm ignition module and fuel pump. At least thats a best guess with what little info I have to work with

1990 ford bronco idles fine when you accelerate the gas loses power and backfires through the intake

Fuel delivery problem, not enough fuel on acceleration could cause backfires. Many things cause backfires, mechanical and electronic. I need more info to give a better diagnosis. Did the problem happen all of a sudden or has the vehicle been running crappy for awhile.

Check your MAP sensor, O2 sensor. You can verify if at least there good by resistant values you can usually find online. All you need is a multi-meter. You shouldn't have any difficulty finding what the value should be cold and hot. This would be a good place to start. Hope this helps.

When pushed going up hills, loses power and "bangs" like a backfire. What is causing that?

Sounds like it is slightly out of timing or a valve needs adjusted.

1990 dodge 360. Runs fine. unpredictable backfire

You want to check your timing for accuracy and then check all plug wires for burned or cracked ends. Also check the single coil tower where the coilwire connects for very small cracks. Then check the inside of the disrtibutor cap for the same small cracks. Throughout this process I'm certain you'll find the culprit. Thanks, Dana
