Hi my name is Peter, did you just have this caliper put on at a shop or did someone else do it.? The reason I am asking is the most likely reason a piston would stick on a brand new caliper would be incorrect installation, maybe something wasn't lined up properly, the retaining bolts for the caliper may be loose and it is shifting when you put on brakes, or maybe someone whether the person who installed the caliper or the person who put it together at the factory scratched the piston or cylinder wall and that could be causing it to hang up. Maybe the rubber boot that protects the piston came loose and dirt or trash got between the piston and cylinder wall. Hope I may have hit the right thing for you let me know and I'll see if I can help anymore.

If install done correctly, proper lube etc, and still sticking, I'd change flex line to caliper.

u have an obstruction in the brake line that feeds that caliper so u need to replace the hole line or u might get lucky and just replace the rubber extension of lie at the caliper. hope this helps please rate me

SOURCE: left from brake caliper sticks at times wheel gets real hot

You brake HOSE may have deteriorated, and is not allowing fluidto drain out of the caliper piston. I found out after a piston, caliper, two disks. The wheel would LOCK UP it got so bad.

First you would need to find out which wheel is holding.
Then check the flex hose for that wheel.

What can i use to keep my breaks from sticking? i put on new break pads and they are still sticking.please help me.


your brake caliper or calipers,may be sticking.when you drive it at night,for say 10 miles,then look at the fronf wheels,do you see a fire red glow behind the wheel on the brake caliper.? easy way to tell.jack the car up with the emergency brake on. pump the brakes with engine running,with the transmission in neutral? can you spin the tires by hand? if not,then you have a sticking brake caliper,which will burn the brakes up fast.eventually,the brake caliper will "lock" and then you will not be able to move the car in any gear.if you suspect bad brake caliper,replace both front brake rotors and calipers with new brake pads. easy way to eliminate the brake problems.if you replace the brake calipers and pads only.the rotors may still be warped due to all the heat that occured with the bad brake calipers. you will have a bad steering wheel vibration when braking otherwise. thank you,for choosing fixya.com!

Put new brake pads on, now brakes were smoking. Sticking caliper?


They are rather easy to replace, disconnect the brake hose, and remove the caliper as you did replacing the pads. You'll need to then bleed the caliper until clear fluid, with no air bubbles come from the bleeder screw. Check that you don't have a collapsed brake hose, not letting the fluid return to the master cylinder.

2001 silverado 1500, just put on new pads rotors and 1 new caliper, the brakes are spungy, the wheel with the new caliper is sticking and the front passanger brake too, i cant figure out why.


Replace both front brake hoses.....they collapse on the inside and will not allow fluid to retract...caliper was probobly fine.....this happens a lot....good luck...Lee

Just put new brake caliper on front driver side


Gravity bleed caliper, just open valve and have a coffee break and close it. Did you buy a loaded caliper with new pads on it? Check the rear wheel cylinders they may be the cause of your mushy pedal. They are cheap too.

Front Brakes


Interesting, disc brakes don't normally stick. Since there is no tension pressure against the pads like drum brakes.

You indicated you replaced the right caliper and the master cylinder, but no mention of the disc or the piston (Some caliper assemblies are all in one, some are not.)

Here are some thoughts:

Disc is contaminated with oil, grease, brake fluid etc, when you brake, it is absorbed by the pad, gets hot and sticks.

You didn't replace left caliper, piston isn't working well, sending all pressure to right side.

You didn't indicate, new, used or rebuilt caliper. If used, get anew/remanufactured SET of calipers and either semi-mettalic or ceramic pads, and new rotors (I used to get rotors turned, but new replacements are now generally cheaper that turning old ones. When working with brakes I always recommend you work them as a set, regardless of how good the other side looks.

Make sure you clean the rotors with a solvent to ensure any grease or anti-rust agent is removed and dry will with several paper towels.

When installing pads, ensure you do not touch the braking surface of the pad or the rotor, body oil can contaminate too.
Make sure that the siding surface of the caliper is lubricatred with silicone grease designed for calipers (little packets are available at your parts store) On my GM Cars, it is the bolts that mount the caliper, but this varies by caliper design
