The 22re timing chain is a double roller and last the lifetime of the car they are bullet proof however the chain tensional is another thing altogether.

Might last 200k ... might not. As mentioned, the tensioner can wear out ... then the chain wears through the timing cover, jumps on the sprockets, etc. My '87 went over 200k on original timing set before I sold it. My '94 had the chain (and timing cover) replaced under 100k ... before I bought the truck. Also I believe that you'll find the later 22re has a single row chain. If the truck rattles when you cold start suspect the chain slapping the timing cover.

I have a 91 22re 4wd 5spd when it first starts it makes a loud clacking noise that goes away after a few seconds what is that noise my rocker arm shafts and rocker arms are in good condidion

Sounds like it could be your timing chain. There is an automatic chain tensioner and over time when the chain gets a lot of miles on it the plastic guides and chain have to be replaced. Typically around 125,000 miles or more. You can remove the valve cover and look down the front of the engine to verify this. Look to see if the plastic guides are still in place and that the chain is not rubbing a hole in the front timing chain cover. Let us know your findings.

The 22re engine was infamous for having timing chain problems where the timing chain guide and tensioner would rub on the back of the waterpump. Check your timing chain to make sure all components are operating correctly and check the back side of the water pump. If it succeeds in tearing up that water pump cover you will coolant rush into engine and water lock the motor. More damage than checking and or replacing the timing chain and components.

Does a 1991 toyota cressida have a timing belt or a timing chain? If it is a timing belt, how often does it need to be changed? If it is a timing chain does it need to be replaced at all?

On 1997 & prior models, the timing BELT interval for vehicles operated under conditions of excessive idling & or low speed driving for long distances, replace at 60,000 mile intervals.

1991 Toyota Pickup 22RE. Loss in oil pressure, timing chain is really got a lot of slack in it. Got 197,000 miles on it. What might be the solution of fixing?

The soulution is probably going to be expensive. It sounds like your oil pump is going bad or your piston rings are not sealing properly anymore. As far as the timing chain is concerned if the timing is still good and/or you are getting no backfires under acceleration then it is just showing normal wear. You probably need to rebuild the motor. 1990 toyota pickup with 22re engine and 235000 miles failed smog in cali.,not because of emissions but because timing was at 30 degrees instead of 10. It starts and runs well. I have not adjusted timing ....

Reset the engine timing by first jumping pins E1 and Te1 in the grey box under the hood. If the truck runs poorly set to proper timing, your timing chain has jumped a tooth. Does it rattle bad at idle? Id so, the guides are worn out, and the chain is stretched.

Reinspect the number one injector. It's not supposed to buzz, it is supposed to click. It may be sticking open (bad), or the injector ground wire may be shorted, keeping the injector energized.
