Question about 2001 Mazda Tribute

1 Answer

Transmission slow to up shift

The transmission seems to be slow to change up through gears, sits on 2000rpm at 60kph, and quick to change down when slight change when extra power needed. Sometimes sits on 1500rpm at 80kph, but only on near 0 incline roads.

Make sure that the fluid level is right. Then take off the driver's side tire and look at the gear shifter link: it may have worn, there is a repair kit that you can buy for thelink that connects right to the transmission lever. Then suspect the manual position lever on top of the front of the trnas but below the radiator hose. This is $40.- if there is no change, keep going: tke off the front cover of the transmission: buy a new (5) solonoid pack and get your 14 year old one off. See if there is a change. All these controls enable the 150 psi fluid to control the valves. That, too is easy, it is the large book size beneath the cover. Ebay sellers will sell a rebuilt for $299. If that is not it, your problem is mechanical, meaning the pistons check valves etc. in the case. Shop for a rebuilt CD4E (transmission name) online. $1,100. Installing it is not hard.

Why does my car shifts hard in the lower gears?

If the fluid is clean and full, you probably have a more serious internal problem. This particular car has a known problem with transmission failures. Read the info at the following link.

You could have a bad valvebody in your transmission or a bad pump in your transmission or your clutches are bad. In any case you have a bad transmission. Please rate my answer.

Transmission problem stuck in sport shift mode

I also have a 2009 Outlander Sportronic transmission with a V6 engine.
Bought it this summer ... transmission appeared fine but seemed to automatically slow down the vehicle using the engines compression whenever I let go of the gas pedal.
Now that the cold weather is upon us here in Canada, whenever I accelarate normally (not like a teenager) the transmission takes quite a bit of time to shift into second... If I rev up the engine (quick take off) it seems to help but the shifting of gears is not as smooth as I would expect it (mildly slips and kicks into second)...

The worst is when come to a complete stop ... then the transmission kicks coming down from the higher gears???

I read somewhere that this is because this transmission is a CVT type and is learning my driving habits in order to adjust itself so the vehicle becomes more fuel efficient... Not sure but if the trany is computer controlled then it must be poorly writen program...
I'm taking the car in to the dealer and will write back on the diagnostic they give me ...

Automatic Transmission Rough Shifting

From the sounds of it you need to have your transmission rebuilt, there is no quick fix for a fault in one gear. As far as the tapping noise goes quite often a oil change is all that is required to cure it.

You need to free up your throttle pressure control cable linkage that sits above your shift cable linkage at the top of your transaxle on drivers side. I had the same problem from time to time, caused it to stay in lower gear longer, and shift down hard when slowing down. Happened more when I drove it a little harder as pushing gas pedal further down causes it to rotate, but then sticks & doesn't come back right a way. Free it up with penetrating lube first, then put a good coat of spray grease like white lithium after its moving freely again, and it should be problem free for a while. You may have to move some things to get at it. If you need a picture email (motor@mountaincable.net), seeing how I can't seem to figure out how to send it from here.
