Reset body control module

Gas gage, temp gage and high beam indicator stopped working. Was told it could be bcm. Can they be reset? Is it near the computer? If it has to be changed, do you have to have a dealer set it? Thanks

When a GM radio displays the "LOC" this means the Theft Lock has been activated on the vehicle. The only way to get it to work after this occurs is to unlock the radio. The process for unlocking the radio is one that can be done by the dealer,but it can also be done by the car's owner in the driveway at home.

So instead of driving to the dealer and paying someoneto unlock the radio, follow this short process and save some money.

Instructions: Turn the ignition key to the "on" position. It may be necessary on some vehicles to start the vehicle. Most will not require the vehicle to be running:
1. Press and hold the preset buttons numbered two and three for 10 seconds at most. Write down the three-digit number that displays on the screen. Some radios will display only two digits.
2. Press the "AM/FM" button on the radio. Write down the second three-digit number. Again, some radios will only displaytwo digits. The AM/FM button has to be pressed quickly after getting the first code. If pressing the button does nothing,then start over.
3. Call 1-800-537-5140 and listen for the make of the vehicle: Chevrolet will be one, Oldsmobile will be two and so on.
4. Press the number corresponding to the make of the vehicle followed by 06010 then the "*" or star key. So for aChevrolet radio, for instance, the number entered will be 106010*.
5. Enter the four- or six-digit code retrieved from the radio. Then write down the code given over the phone.
6. Go back to the radio and press the "Hour Set" button until the first two digits of the code from the phone appear. Now press the "Minute Set" button until the second two digits of the code appear.
7. Press the "AM/FM" button. The word "SEC" should appear on the screen. If it does then turn the radio on and it will work. If not then repeat steps 4 through 7 and get additional codes.

If you bought the car new then there should be writen in the manual the code for the theft lock system on the radio. If pre-owned then it might, might not be in there. Or, if you dont have one at all, go to your nearest GM dealer and have them fix it by finding the code. Make sure to have them write it down for you incase this happens again. Be prepared to prove you own the vehicle.

top middle connection is the earth on the bulb and this is faulty ,what end i couldnt tell you but its no doubt the chassis side so run another cvable to teh neg on the battery and if it brightens up then you know its a earth problem

Headlamp ON/OFF control is determined by the body control module (BCM) by a signal on the headlamp switch on input circuit when the headlamp switch is in the HEAD position. When the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position, the BCM determines headlamps ON/OFF by the voltage from the ambient light sensor.
If the headlight switch is left in the ON position, the inadvertent power control feature will turn OFF the headlights approximately 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position. If the driver places the headlight switch in the ON position after the ignition switch has been turned OFF, or if the ignition switch is in the ACCY position, the headlights will remain ON until turned OFF or the battery runs dead.
The high beam indicator is illuminated when the instrument cluster receives a GMLAN serial data message from the BCM that the high beams are illuminated.
High Beams
The high beam headlamps receive voltage from the headlamp high relay located in the underhood fuse block. The BCM controls the relay on the headlamp high beam relay control circuit. High beam control is determined by a signal on the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit from the multifunction switch. When the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit is grounded, the BCM grounds the headlamp high beam relay control circuit, illuminating the high beam headlamps. The right and left high beam circuits are independent and are fused independently in the underhood fuse block.
Low Beams - Standard
The low beam headlamps receive voltage from the headlamp low beam relay located in the underhood fuse block. The BCM controls the relay on the headlamp low beam relay control circuit. Low beam control is determined by a signal on the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit from the multifunction switch. When the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit is open, the BCM grounds the headlamp low beam relay control circuit, illuminating the low beam headlamps. The right and left low beam circuits are independent are fused independently in the underhood fuse block.

The headlamp driver module (HDM) is an electronic module that provides electrical power to the vehicle low beam headlamps. The HDM is controlled by a pulse width modulated (PWM) ground signal from the body control module (BCM). The BCM determines the desired lamp intensity using the ambient light sensor, multifunction switch and the park brake switch as inputs. In general, the HDM will operate in 1 of 3 modes:

Your headlamps , instrument cluster lights , warning lights , gauges etc... are all computer controlled in some way . Could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in various modules on your vehicle ! That is always the first place to start. This problem if no DTC'S are stored , checking the affected electrical circuits for shorts , opens , high resistance etc... would be a good next step . Also checking power and grounds of controlling module , in this case the BCM - body control module .

The body control module (BCM) applies a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage to the headlamp module and high beam relay in the underhood fuse block. The ground for the headlamp module is supplied from G113 or G115. For normal manual low beam operation when the headlamp switch is place in the HEAD position, ground from G202 is applied through the headlamp switch and to the BCM through the headlamp switch headlamps ON signal circuit. The BCM then applies a PWM voltage to the headlamp module/high beam relay voltage supply circuit. The headlamp module then applies battery positive voltage through the left front (LF) and right front (RF) LO Beam fuses to the left and right low beam headlamps. The ground for the left headlamps is supplied by G101 and the ground for the right headlamp is supplied by G100.
For high beam operation, ground is applied at all times to the headlamp dimmer switch from G202. When the headlamp dimmer switch is placed in the HIGH position, ground is then applied through the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit to the BCM. The BCM then applies a ground to the headlamp high beam relay control circuit. This energizes the HI Beam relay, the relay then applies battery positive voltage through the LF and RF HI BEAM fuses to the LF and RF high beam headlamps. The ground for the left headlamps is supplied by G101 and the ground for the right headlamp is supplied by G100.
The BCM then sends a class 2 message to the instrument cluster in order to illuminate the high beam indicator lamp. If the headlamp switch is left in the HEAD position, the inadvertent power control feature will turn OFF the headlamps after 10 minutes after you turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. If you place the headlamp switch in the head position after the ignition switch has been turned OFF, or if the ignition switch is in ACCY position, the headlamps will remain ON until you turn them OFF or until the battery runs dead.

I have a 2010 Chevy impala LS instrument cluster and it has a 20 pin plug I'm trying to figure out which wire's on the back of the cluster are for the speed sensor, rpm, gas, and temp wires.


Boy your way off base . All the gauges are inputs from the ECM - engine computer . The VSS - vehicle speed sensor , ETC - engine coolant temp sensor , sending unit in the fuel tank , All this sensors input the engine computer . The PCM then sends this info on the GMLAN serial data bus ,communications network . The Instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside that translates this info an controls the gauges. You probably have an instrument cluster problem or a communication network problem . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to the dealer or some other qualified repair shop. Need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes.

While driving antitheft light comes on and all the gauges go flat,car keeps runnig,want to disable system,not sure what to look for


Before doing something drastic ,have it checked out for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . It may not be the anti-theft system ,gauges going flat would be more like a communication problem between modules . PCM / BCM / instrument cluster etc.. That also could cause theft light coming on . If your not sure what to look for ,take it to a ASE certified professional . You may render your vehicle useless if you don't know what your doing .
Serial Data Power Mode Master
On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle, the PMM is the body control module (BCM). The PMM receives 3 discrete ignition switch signals to differentiate which power mode will be sent over the Serial Data circuits. The 3-wire Ignition Switch table below illustrates the state of these inputs in correspondence to the ignition switch position:
Serial Data Messages The modules that depend exclusively on serial data messages for power modes. stay in the state dictated by the last valid PMM message until they can check for the engine run flag status on the serial data circuits. If the PMM fails, the modules monitor the serial data circuit for the engine run flag serial data. If the engine run flag serial data is True, indicating that the engine is running, the modules fail-safe to RUN. In this state, the modules and their subsystems can support all operator requirements. If the engine run flag serial data is False, indicating that the engine is not running, the modules fail-safe to OFF-AWAKE. In this state, the modules are constantly checking for a change status message on the serial data circuits and can respond to both local inputs and serial data inputs from other modules on the vehicle.

No low beam. Good high beam. No day lights. What's wrong?


No on the fuse . The LH HDLP and RH HDLP fuse in the fuse block - under hood, supply battery positive voltage to both low and high beam lamps at all times. For manual operation, when the headlamp switch is in the ON position, the headlamp switch supplies ground directly to the headlamps and to the body control module (BCM) on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. The BCM uses this signal to determine if the conditions are present to illuminate the daytime running lamps or park lamps.
The headlamps may be turned on 2 different ways. First, when the driver places the headlamp switch in the ON position, for manual operation. Second, with the headlamp switch placed in the OFF position activating automatic lamp control (ALC).For ALC operation, the BCM receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under low light conditions the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit energizing the headlamp control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground through the headlamp switch to the headlamps and the BCM on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. When the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit it also grounds the park lamp relay control circuit illuminating the park lamps. The headlamp relay is grounded at G203.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The low beam headlamps operate at reduced intensity when in daytime running lamps (DRL) mode. The ground circuit to the switch side of the DRL relay has a resistor in-line to reduce the intensity of the low beam headlamps for DRL operation. The body control module (BCM) receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under daylight conditions the BCM grounds the DRL relay control circuit energizing the DRL control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground directly to the low beam headlamps and to the BCM on the headlamp low beam signal circuit. The low beam headlamps now illuminate with reduced intensity. The DRL relay is grounded at G203. Any time the headlamps are illuminated the DRL will not illuminate. Manual park lamps do not effect DRL operation.

Indicators, headlight, high beam, Heater showing strange behavior. Can you please suggest what could be the possible reason for it . BCM or Multi Function switch?


Hooking up an OBD2 reader will tell you right away if the BCM is shot or BCM. Take it to advanced auto or O'Riley's they will hook up a an OBD2 reader and tell you. Sounds like a faculty PCM and BCM to me or just faulty PCM since you've replaced the Body Control Module already.
