Question about 2003 Land Rover Freelander

Open Question

No timing belts

Just got a 2003 freelander and the timing belts were missing. I need to know what position the cam shafts need to be in and what position the crank shaft needs to be in?

Yes, the rear diff is fcuked. It is a common fault on these models. I have a 1.8 2000 model and have now removed the rear prop. This now gives me a perfectly quiet drive, more mpg and frankly not worth getting fixed unless you really need to have 4wd. It is very common for owners to do this. Apparantly after 2001 threy used different diffs (JATCO) which are more heavy duty and don't wear out as fast!

Hydraulic lifters? I have been racking my brains for this one. Lifters will sometimes pump up when cold and then lose pressure as they get worked. Would explain why your camshaft died. Suggest you look at old camshaft, see the cams that were worn and replace those lifters. Only thing I can come up with!

Just had a cat fitted on my freelander auto in a kwik fit they had to remove the turbo and the cam shaft to put in the new cat and exhaust system .since i got the car back it wont turn over first time like...

maybe not the timing but the cam could be off just a little if it wasnt put back exactly like it came out it would change the variables you can also have your crank sensor checked im leaning toward the sensor since the cam was out of the vehicle. hope this gives you someplace to start at least.

How to set timing when you relesh tensioner and it changes the alignment postion of pullies 2000 ford ranger 2.5 l

Here is the trick. Align marks. Put the timing belt on the crank shaft pulley first, and after on the overhead cam pulley. Release tensioner and rotate the crank shaft till the timing belt makes two full circles. Try to align marks, you will be at least one tooth off. Align the crank shaft on the mark, and find out how many teeth you are off at the cam shaft pulley. Count the teeth. Remove the timing belt from cam shaft pulley only. Move cam shaft pulley in reverse according to the number of teeth you counted. Make sure the crank shaft pulley is on the mark. Mount the belt at cam shaft pulley.Rotate the belt two circles and check the marks. Repeate this procedure til after releasing the tensioner, and rotating the timing belt two full circles, the mars will be align.

you need a special tool is no marks, one tool is like a pin this one go on the flywheel.
for the camshaft you need a special bracket to hold both camsafts in position.
