If this has the flat style cap replace it and rotor they are known for cross shorting . Be careful the cap screws down in to plastic base on distributor most come with new screws with thread lock so over tightening is not needed.

I have a 2001 v6 mustang coupe and it stalls/ jerks back and forth when I accelerate, but it only does it on certain speeds, usually around 45. I've been told to get a tune up but I'm not real sure...

have a mechanic check your ignition timing first. this includes timing in the crankshaft, camshaft, and distributor.

cylinder misfires are commonly caused by wrong ignition timing, faulty spark plugs, and / or faulty high tension wires

My son has 1987 Toyota Celica ST with a 3S-FE engine. It sometimes has acceleration issues. For lack of a better word, it jerks while accelerating. But it only does this at times. Other times it works...

Same problem happened to my 1993 Nissan 240SX SE Hatchback. Turned out to be the flywheel for some odd reason. Try that! Also in my opinion it could be bad spark plugs or a clogged fuel filter. Usually those would be the main reasons.

My toyota camry 1993 have a power problem, when i'm giving gas the car jerks and even sometimes would suddenly out.

Have you replaced your fuel filter lately? that is usually the main cause for that common issue. A clogged or messy filter leads to starving the engine so when you accelerate there is a deficiency in the firing of the spark plugs. That then causes the jerking dying.

I have a 2001 ford ranger ext cab 4.0 v6 4x4. the truck at times jerks and at stop signs runs rough then the speedometer bounces while stopped

Have you tired the Idle Air Control Valve? When was the last time you did a tune-up with new Spark Plugs and spark plug wires? Make sure you use Motorcraft Platinum spark plugs if you want the best performance for your vehicle.

sounds like it could be plugged injectors or a timing problem.
