Question about 2003 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

White smoke from exhaust and rotten egg smell then engine dies

The engine then goes to no spark and cranks but fuel pump relay clicks very fast or sometimes you can smell fuel but no start when I was checking for crank sensor on/off there was voltage present at terminal c with key in the OFF position and battery drain.

Are you the Joe Thomas from the Cleveland Browns. I think your right the crank sensor lets it start then it dies a few minutes later. My blazer did this and i replaced the crank sensor and i ran fine again.

Does your battery go dead?

SOURCE: 2000 blazer 4.3 hard to start (fuel problem)

Do you have the fuel tester hooked the in the overgrown air valve on the fuel rail in the back of the engine? Or do you have the fuel line unhooked in the back and hooked to the pressure pump? You want the fuel pressure to be in that 60 lb range so if you are hooked into the pressure valve on the fuel rail allowing fuel to go through, then I am betting it is the fuel pressure regulator. To get to that, you have to take the throttle body off and take the plastic plenum that covers the injector packs. On the back of the mount where your six pack of injectors are sits the pressure regulator. If it is faulty then it is dumping fuel instead of holding the pressure like it should.
Get a Chilton or Clymer manual and it shows you in pretty good detail how to fix it. I've done it to my 98 S10 with the same engine.

If you unhooked the fuel line so you are losing pressure from the line back to the pump then I would say your pump is letting fuel back to the tank when it shuts off. My money is on the first possibility though.

Good luck

Does the Van Crank over?
Have you checked the IGN Relays? 1,2,and 3?
How did the Battery test out?
Anything below 11.9v battery is dead.
So I suggest that you do not throw any more parts and check the battery again.

05 outback code er55 car misses and smokes black exhaust smells like eggs what is wrong

black smoke indicates that it is over fuelling, probably from a faulty injector
the eggs smell is hydrogen sulphide ( rotten egg gas) and is the cat converter doing its job ( same as new car exhaust smell)

2002 sunfire no power to fuel pump ,fuses and relays are fine what could it be???

rotten egg smell is hydrogen sulfide from catalytic converter not burning all hydrocarbons and or poor air fuel mixture., you may have to trace out power wire lead that it is getting power to fuel pump, as well as ground wire that control pump. when you say relays are good do you hear them activate when you turn key on , switch relay out with knowen good one .,you can try a little starting fluid if it runs on that you know all other electrical is performing well , then back to plan A . 2008 Kia Rio poor acceleration and rotten egg smell. Changed air filter and spark plugs with Busch platinum plugs.

rotten egg smell is attributed to unburned fuel reaching the catalytic converter. There may be an exhaust leak or intake manifold leak that is telling computer to add more fuel then car is capable of burning in cylinders or you could have a to cold of spark plugs hope this helps you solve your problem

FUEL PUMP.
Have you checked the fuel flow and pressure?
If the fuel pump is over 160,000kms/100,000miles it's done.
Put in a complete assembly,if your mileage is close to above numbers you need a new pump anyway and it may (90% chance) will cure your rough running engine. The other 10 % is contaminated fuel and electrical, but as you have no codes I'll say FUEL PUMP.

Car died rotton egg smell

Not sure if engine coolant smells like rotten egs when it burns inside the cylinders , but it sounds like you may have blown a head gasket. Coolant and/or oil could be getting inside combustion chamber. Another possibility is that the catyletic converter might have broken up and colapsed onto the screen where it goes into the exhaust. Might give the rotten egg smell and block the exhaust enough to cause backpressure sufficient to cause the engine to run poorly too.
Try putting your palm over the exhaust pipe , if the exhaust is coming out in pulses (pop ,pop, pop) thats normal , if it is just slowly flowing out with no noticable pulses , I would check into the cat converter problem.
