Question about 1998 Volvo V70

Spedo meter signal

My instrument panel with the onboard computer has no function of the rpm, spedometer , cc , i put in an other panel without the onboard computer and every thing functions normaly, so i changed the info switch, the ECU an other spedo panel and it still don't works, i have a code DTC 211 D+signal means no speed signal, i think it has an electrical problem but don't know where to look for? many thanks for an answer

Check for problems in the TCM in the gear box as it controls the units you mentioned. Check for all connectors are tight.

SOURCE: 1991 Volvo 740GL Speedometer

I remove two panel underneath the steering column. The first panel is removed using a 10 mm socket. The second panel is removed using a torx socket (can't remember the size). Removing these two panels gives you room to get to the clip on speedomter. Looking at the speedometer, you should see two rectangular holes on each side of the speedometer cover. I use a awl to push in the clip (you could use a screwdriver). Looking underneath the dash, you should be able to see the clip you are pushing on with the awl. I take my 2nd awl and put it behind the clip. I get the left side to release. One the speedometer cover releases, you can see the speedometer. You will see the 4 torx screws (t20) and two smaller clips holding the speedometer. All that is left is the wiring. (I take a sharpie pen and mark one of my wire locations on the speedometer. I am not sure what it does. It is a single wire.)

the ring you mention removed is called the exciter ring and is a vital part of the abs system to work properly so have new ring fitted asap this is why abs light etc is on in the uk this would fail mot safety test i am surprised the garage?? did ot renew this exciter ring? knowing it affects the abs ie makes it none operational should it need to operate ? also if involved in accident? and car brakes are checked this serious fault may have an effect on insurance claim hope this explaines??

I have a 2000 ford windstar that I tore the ignition out of.now the theft light is on and wont start.can I change the steering column and the computer and get it to start without taking to dealer.


Not exactly.
If you replace the key lock and the sensor is functioning, you should be able to start the van.
The computer and instrument panel are in sync, so if you replace either component they have to be reset by a Ford dealer. The sensor in the key lock sends a signal to the instrument cluster, and if the signal is right, the cluster sends the signal to the computer which then activates the necessary circuits to start the engine. The key code has to match the cluster and the computer.

sorry but no. the odometer gets its signal fom the spedometer so if the spedometer works and the odometer does not then you will need to replace the spedometer assembly...good luck

{: ) A cable is definitely not the problem because there is none. There is no particular fuse for both meters. In case the cluster fuses go bad, there will be other more indicators or gauges that won't be functioning aside from the two meters, and you can also observe that. To verify if the two gauges are inoperative or stuck, you will need service of diagnostic scan tool.
The speedometer and rpm meter are electrically integrated into the IPC (nstrument panel cluster)module. The IPC gather its information from other modules like the PCM or BCM and they communicate thru serial data lines, similar to a telephone network hooked up to only two wires.
For both meters, the IPC communicates with the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), which receives the signals coming from the vehicle speed sensor (for the speedometer) and the engine speed sensor (for the rpm meter or tachometer).
The two sensors could not have failed at the same time, although not impossible. A module (PCM) or communication (wirings and connectors) failure is a more likely cause. Just make sure that all the fuses are checked good to rule out any missing power signal during the initial diagnosis.

It is very likely that rebuilding the transmission and/or engine has absolutely NOTHING to do with your current problem. The problems you are describing are electrical in nature. All of the things you are describing are controlled by the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) The speed is calculated by the IPC after receiving vehicle speed information from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and from the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) The IPC also calculates engine RPM based on data received from the PCM. This information is transfered through the class 2 data communications circuits.
In short, your problem could be located in any of these modules or the circuits that network them together. You need to run a full scan of your onboard computer network to locate the cause of the problem.

Innacurate reading with 1971 corvette speedometer


either a bad spedometer cable on these older cars the spedo cable can be lubed with a special adapter and a special grease in your grease gun or the cable removed from the case and lubed OR the spedo head is tired and needs to be rebuilt

try checking the fuse box and replace the fuse of the instrumental panel or gauges. it wont cost u much just the fuse

If everything keeps going like that then it sounds like its a problem with the onboard computer. The computer controls all the guages and would explain why they all fail at the same time.
