Question about 1990 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
My MB wont start - I have put new batteries in the key, have cleaned the red lens both on the key and the insert, this made a difference in that the key now takes the process all the way up to the final starter kranking - here it just dims the lights with a small click. On the light pannel the light moves from P to C - nothing further. I recharged the battery to full - same result. I have also found that the key no longer locks the doors, but still opens them and the luggage boot. Any suggestions on what the problem is and how to resolve this?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Could it be the key just needs re-coding? maybe you are worrying to much as £177 would be about right as that would need coding etc., Try phoning your local Merc dealer or take the key and V5 to them for coding (Hopefully)

the key's are special order and they are fairly expensive. Test the voltage in your remote batteries. They should be 3 volts. These systems are very voltage senstive and require a good battery to operate properly. I'm assuming you have the original batteries in the remote now and it is 6 plus years old. These batteries generally last 3 years so it is definatly time if you have not replaced them yet!
