442 is EVAP small leak. This system runs from the engine to the charcoal canister to the fuel tank und up to the fill cap. The quickest way to find the leak is with a smoke machine. You can spend hours trying to hunt a small leak down. But usually a small leak is at the fitting on the line (the seals in them dry rot). Also look at the seal on the gas cap. The EVAP system doesn't effect the runnability or gas mileage on your vehicle. On newer models it will shut the vehicle down. It's an EPA thing.

Code 442 is the gas evaporation system. Could be as simple as not closing the gas tank cap properly or more likely it's the gas tank vent solenoid which is stuck open. This unit is located above the spare tire.

There are a couple of components in this system: more than you would think for something containing a canister and hoses.

On some models the test for this defect is not run below 50 degrees outside temperature. This is a consideration when trying to determine if a repair was successful.

I understand that vent solenoids are a common problem, then some hoses deteriorate and leak. A simple problem is a loose gas cap.

A test requiring a special machine is needed to perform a "smoke test" which is the only way to find leaks in this system. You would call the repair shops and ask "if they have a smoke test machine for the Evaporator Emissions System".

Check your gas cap, take a chance on the vent solenoids, but using a "smoke test" will help keep you from replacing good parts.

You will need to have it scanned as there are many reasons for an engine lamp coming on. Shop around as many Auto Electricians have scanning gear and are cheaper than the Franchise dealers.

That is an emissions code. It means you have a small leak in one of the lines. Most likely it the line that goes from the engine to the evap canister in the drivers side rear inner fender well.

Check engine light on Toyota sienna 2000 stays on

have an auto parts store scan the computer for you.
They most often do this for free (oreilly auto parts and autozone)

Write down the code they give you. Should start with "P" (po442, P1406, etc)

That will be the problem, and they will most likely offer you the part right there.

Toyota is big about EVAP system trouble codes (chech engine lights)

But it could be anything, so this should be an easy fix.

You can even ask them at the parts store where the trouble part is located.

let me know once you find the problem code and I can help more.

Check engine light on. Won't stay off. OCD code is po442 po128 coolant.

Just fixed mine with the same code and gm tech advised me to change thermostat which is not a fun job as it is located in the LOWER hose and comes with a gooseneck assembly and O ring. The temp sensor could also be the problem but was told not likely so got by with just thermostat!
