Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Am

2002 grand prix heater blows hot, compressor runs great, fan motor runs great, both heater tubes are hot, smaller ac tube is really cold and larger ac tube is pretty warm.

    compressor is running strong after I charged it, it is charged, the only problem is getting the cold air to my face. did that change your answer at all

You have a plugged dryer and capilary tube you need to replace bothto be able to recharge.

    Well you could have a ducting problem did you check to see if the duct work come undone under the dash? It's hard to guess without being there doing my own diangostics so that would of been my first gurss then my second.

    the best performance for the AC is the high side should run now higher then 300 PSI and the low side 30 the orifice tube in in line at the bottom near the condenser, if it is plugged it will cause the problem you are speaking of, so will the receiver dryer, they should of both been replaced before charging the orifice tube is only 3 inches long and looks like a pencil with o rings on each end and has a screen in it and has to be replace about every 5 to 6 years due to contaminates in the system, once it plugs no more cool air, it only cost 3 dollars and you will see where there is a nut threaded on the tube it's the only place you could stuff something in the tube.

2008 Grand Prix GXP keeps blowing the 10amp fuse for the AC. When replaced, it runs cold again until I start driving, then it blows and only has hot air once again. Very frustrating in Texas heat!

A/C COMP Relay - try replacing the A/C compressor clutch relay # 38 in under hood fuse / relay box . ! Could be shorting out after hot . I don't won't to get to technical on you, doing voltage drop testing on the circuit . If not relay the compressor clutch coil could be going bad when heating up . There are videos on you tube , testing A/C compressor clutch relay .

Its not the fan motor. That would blow a different fuse. IT could be the compressor clutch that is shorting out.

2002 taho location of orifice tube, ft and rear systems


I would check the low and high readings with a gauge set first.
Its possible the compressor has failed internally.
If the orifice is plugged up one of the lines should be cold where the freon gas is concentrated.
The fan clutch is working ok, right ?
I'm showing an orifice tube in the front and an expansion valve in the back, so its doubtful both would fail at the same time.

Hint: it leaks when it RAINS

If it were related to the heater core or the AC drain, it would be leaking when it is not raining also, so those diagnoses are not logical.

The grand prix has a long history of floor leaks from seal failures around the air intake under the windshield cowling, where RAIN water runs in.

My son is having a problem with no heat at all. Is it a resistor or fuse?


Well if the blower is not blowing at all, then I would say one should check into the motor for the blower and the relay as well as the fuse to it.

If the heater blows but no heat comes out (it's cold in the winter) despite setting the controls to maximum hot, then I would say the blend door could be not positioning itself to allow hot air in from the heater core, or the heater core is plugged.

So,

If the two heater core tubes at the firewall are hot, then it's a blend door problem.
If the two heater core tubes at the firewall are cool, then it's a plugged up heater core.

also check to see if tube that runs your climate door is not pinched or broken. the vaccum tube that runs the climate door is behind and under the battery. i had same problem a year ago and the tube was partially cut. i fixed it by cuttinga piece of aquarium tubing and spliced it back together. one other thing.....check to see if your radiator over flow cap is tight. your cap maybe bad and or cracked this would also cause the problem.

2002 pontiac grand prix gt AC only blows hot air compressor full of freon and clutch spinning good temp control actuators working corectly narrow ac tube at firewall very cold thicker ac tube at firewall...


i had same problem 2 years ago. the actuator door tube was snapped in half and i used acquarium tubing to splice together. The tube runs along the passenger front well well inside engine and meets under the battery carriage. I could not tell anything was wrong without removing the battery to get a closer look. works like a champ now.

Also: there is also an inline venturi filter that fits in the aluminum tubing on the compressor, it may be clogged. You will have to have the freon sucked out to replace the filter. Check back with me so I can help more if this doesnt solve your problem.

working on 4 and 5 speed that the resistor that broken cold air you got to move the selector to see the motor that move the trap hot and cold sometime when the motor was not move to the hot side for a long time its jam the motor on the passager side under dash put to hot and gently tap the motor tanks pierre
