OK "But" My 2004 chevrolet uses NO oil in 3000 miles and it has 90000 miles on it....it is hard to believe that the 2004 nissan Quest with 67000 miles uses 1 1/2 qts. of oil in 3,500 miles .....

Now if this is true then my next step is going to be performing a wet and dry compression test .....Tom

Figuring off of national standards thata gasoline engine is allowed to burn 1qt. of oil every 2,000 miles tthey would be correct. But That is not to say for that particular engine providing that oil has been changed every 3000 miles,There could be other problems contributing to your car,for instance cklogged pcv valve, leaking injectors or fuel preasure regulator both can cause fuel contamination to engine oil (Dillution) Thins oil too much,or overheat condition,or failed cat convertor. With this in mind talk with another Nissan dealer if only by Phone.

Not all engines are built the same, problem would not be with compresion rings,Would be with oil rings, probably stuck.Compresion test will not tell you anything because it is already using oil wich would be passing oil ring It would be performing wet test all the time.Like i said earlier standards allow 1qt every 2000 miles and you are at 1.5qts in 3000 miles you are dead on allowable specification.Buy American.Call Nissan custumer service,Corporate.Dealer will not want to address oil consumption.

Onother thing is when last oil change was performed there is a possibility that proprer amount or oil was not installed.

This is actually quite normal oil consumption here. if there is no blow by and, your exhaust pipe isn't spewing blue smoke, you are ok here.

It is a bit above normal but, just by a hair. a half a gallon give or take..

2004 , no miles on engine, stated, (odometer) 50k, 500k, what?
all engines burn oil by design. ALL !
only question is, how much, ?
miles /per quart
or KM per LITER.

if you ask any sharp mech, to fix oil consumption, HE WILL
Ching-ching..... after all you asked him, !!!!!
don't , no really dont.

post the consumption rates and ask.?
ive got like 1.5million miles in cars, and motorcycles.
and 300k or more in ships. (our ship burns oil only) LOL

the number 1 reason of excessive oil is driving too fast.
if you drive most cars 80mphy all the time, it will burn more oil
most cars new run about 1 quart of oil per 3000 miles.

I had one engine, a mazda, i drove it to the ground, as an experiment.
a 626, it was using a quart every 1000 miles
it took oil EVERY fill up. oils cheap so I fed it. why not?
the PO overheated the engine once and that is why.;
I rebuild engines so , know the reasons.... (retired now)

does tail pipe end smoke? , (end) first start, not steam, but oil smoke)?

does it hot?, its got issues. (rings)
if it loves toSMOKE , going down a hill fast?, and with foot off throttle
(high vacuum) and you look in rear view mirror and it's smoking
yes, that is valve seals bad, $10 in parts.
ask someone to follow you, and look for smoke, (easy, huh?)

if it smokes all the time?, and PCV valve is new (not clogged)
it needs rings. or like me, just drive it like you stole it, why not?

How many n what kind of oil i need to use for a nissan quest 1999

If it has the 4 cylinder in it 5W20 and if you have the 6 cylinder it could be either 5W20 or 10w30. I usually use 5W20 in cold months and 10W30 in hot months. As far as capacity goes, as a general rule if you change the oil but not the filter, not something I recommend, then you start with 4 quarts and adjust from there (Basically by 5 quarts). If you change the oil and filter then start with 4 and a half quarts and check the level and adjust as needed. You could use up to 5 quarts maybe a little more. Make sure you check the level before starting then start the vehicle for 5 minutes shut it down then check the level again after 5 minutes. Make sure the level is between the marks.

2004 Rodeo, 103,000 miles. no oil leaks so I guess its burning oil. Oil is maybe a qt. low after 1000 since change. Engine still sounds fine but I don't know what a new engine sounds like since I bought...

if you are using a quart of oil every 1000miles,that is NORMAL FOR A MODERN ENGINE.thats why they last so much longer than the old technology.you could try 20/50 oil when you next change as that will help.but worry when it gets to pint every 350 miles.

2004 pontiac grand prix 71000 milesis burning oil. no leaks no smoke

How many miles do you go before you have to add oil. GM actually states that one quart of oil every 2000 miles is considered normal. I personally think that one quart every 3000 miles is normal esp at higher miles. As an engine wears things such as valve seals and rings get worn and allow oil to seep past and will burn, this can be in such small amounts that you will not notice the smoke and is normal engine wear. The life cycle of an engine is considered 100k miles by the designers, even though we all know they will go far beyond that. If your car has the 3.1 or the 3.4 liter engine you may want to check in the engine coolant for signs of oil, it is a common problem for the oil to seep into the cooling system but is not usually enough to make a noticable drop in oil level. If you are only using about one qt every 3k miles or so i would not worry about it if you have had it checked for leaks already.

2004 Buick Lesabre uses quart of oil in 3K miles. Is this normal?

No it's not have your engine check for oil leaks, also have then do a wet and dry cylinder compression test this will let you know if you are burning oil, also have them check the spark plug's.Hope this was helpful.

What is normal oil consumption?

you may want to upgrade your oil to a thicker oil that helps alot more than people think its normal anywhere from 1qt to 1/2 a qt every 3000 miles that sounds pretty good and a healthy engine upgrade on brands and viscosity that should take care of that but it will burn more oil if the engine is being broken into for the first time if its brand new

Slide a large piece of cardboard under the truck after driving for ten minutes note in which area directly above the spot on the cardboard the oil is coming from then get under the vehicle with a drop light to look for the origin of the leak, if no leak is detected then it may be the engine is burning oil this could either be valve stem seals or broke or worn oil rings.
