its an auto tranny, all of those things have been tried and failed, i've quite literally done every conceivable thing short of swaping out axles,
thank you for the quick response

it was a bent axle shaft in the rear drivers side

Just as a question but does this shaking also happen occasionally after hitting a bad bump? The heavy shaking in the cherokees is asctually a common issue known as the "death wobbble". It is actually one or more of your control arms coupled probably with a bad CV or maybe even a seperated belt in your tire. My 93 had the same issue. After replacing everything that had to do with braking I discovered that it did it not just as braking but also when I hit a bump doing more than 30mph. I would recommend taking it to a 5* shop. The best one in town and let them look at it. It will cost you a litlle more but if it is the "Wobble" you'll thank them for it.

Back breaks shaking

Back brakes shaking, this may be due to out of round drums or rotors depending on the type of brake system.
This may be caused by over adjusted brakes or a bad caliper or wheel cylinder. The other thing could be a stuck e-brake cable, this would cause the brake to stay on heating up drum or rotor until it gets out of round.
check the brakes, have the rotors checked and also check the e-brakes to make sure they are releasing all the way. good day

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 V-8 shakes something awful sometimes when I brake at speeds of 50mph+. It then starts to wobble and doesn`t brake good. What is causing this to happen and how do I fix it?...

UNLESS there is a major front end issue the most common cause of the vibration is the rotors being out of round. this is easily correct by having a brake shop resurface the rotors. also the vibration could be coming from the rear as well. the way to determine if it rear or front is the next time you brake somewhere that it usually has the vibration try applying only the parking brake instead of the brake pedal. NOTE....when making this check be sure to hold the parking brake release button to prevent lock up of the brakes. the parking brake only works the rear brakes. this will determine where it is coming from. the back brakes will have either brake drums or either brake rotors. same philosophy but different operating mechanics. either way it can all be corrected by resurfacing the rotors and/or drums

My brakes grab on my 2000 jeep cherokee classic.

you will need to have the brakes checked, you may have a bad hose or sticking caliper, also if you have drum rear brakes then the rear drums may be out of round, this is if its the rear brakes that are grabbing, if it is then you may just need the drums resurfaced and also make sure theres no gear oil or brake fluid on the shoes. if the fronts are grabbing then you may have a bad brake hose or a bad caliper.

One or both of your new rotors probably have some run-out in them. Not entirely unusual to have warped rotors right out of the box.I would check this before considering other things. machine rotors....good luck

Since you aready paid $400, go back to ;the shop and get your $'S worth!! Unless someone can prove that the axle bgs were bad, you shoulld ask why pinion & side gears were not diagonsed!!! (dosen't anyone test drive stuff after they "fix" something anymore??? Dosen't anyone give a damn???
If you can't get anywhere with this, find a junkyard unit and install it yourself. It isn't that hard. Just be sure that new lone has the same mount points and gear ratio matches ratio lof front axle.(count gear teeth if you must)
