Easy fix after you get hood open. They are very substantial latches for security reasons. Does the handle pull the cable all the way out? Hopefully the cable has broken near the Handle and the outer houseing can be pealed away from the cable up to the fire wall. Then a vicegrip plier can be used to grip the pull cable. and unlatch the hood.

There seems to be no way to unlatch the hood release for my 92 buick regal. i have the grill off, but can see nothing at all on how to disengage. i need a diagram of assembly to figure out how this works.

Can you grab the cable with some vise grips and pull on it to open the hood? If not you need to crawl under the front remove the rock guard and look up were the cable is that runs to the hood latch. Once located use a pair of wire cutters and cut the cable as far away from the latch as possible. Once cut try pulling on the plasic covering to see if it will pull off the actual cable. Then pull on the cable and hood should unlatch.

When the top is put down on my 2004 New Beetle GLS Convertible 1.8L Turbo, there is a beeping noise that continues. How do you stop the beeping noise once the top is down?

Just in case you still needing assistance.......

The micro switch in the handle assembly where you unlatch the roof is bad or out of adjustment.

How do i open the hood.

there should be a lever that is on the bottom edge of dash that is under the steering wheel along the trim. if the handle is broken you can use pliers to grab the cable and pull it to get the hood to realse. if you found all that and i seems to work ok then when pulling the release lever have a friend hit or shake the hood to get it to pop up a little so that you can open it all the way.

Every time we try and put the convertible top down the window cracks. Is there something that needs to be unlatched in the back where the window is??

If you don't have anything in the well, the frame is out of allingment.
This is often caused by lowering the top while the car is moving.
Take it to a top shop.
You say, "Every time". If you had it replaced, the installer should have seen and corrected the problem.

Letting the top down

I had the same problem for four years until I purchased a CD from Ebay titled "BMW E30 Convertible". I discovered, that I was opening the top up incorrectly. The top works fine. Unlatch the top from the windshield frame, then lift up the back half of the top, unlatch the top lid, rise it up and lower the top into the compartment, close and latch the soft top lid. Hopes this helps.

I have a 93 Mustang LX Convertible and when I try to put the top down (both latches are unlatched) I hear a clicking sound coming from the rear of my car (I'm assuming it's the motor making the sound.) and...

I am taking a wild guess the motor gearbox has an overload clutch to protect it should the hood joints become tight or if something fouls the hood operation. That is possibly what you hear clicking - like a cordless drill/driver when the screw bottoms...

If that is in fact what is happening then either the clutch has become weak and overrides too easily or the hood joints need some maintenance - maybe a bit of both.
