Question about 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Electrical...Maybe brake sensor 1997 Tahoe

Same situation, the radio volume goes up and down all on its own. Usually have to leave it off completely to keep from going deaf. Also, when trying to put the truck in gear from park, it's as if I am not pushing the brake to release it. I can pump the brakes, turn the steering wheel, try again and it shifts fine, its just gets "stuck" in park. This could be electrical as well or maybe the brake sensor? help!

Hi emmissionwiz. I don't know that the two problems are related. The radio has been acting this way for some time now but the other has just recently started.
I was hoping there would be some suggestion on a piece or part I could look for to check and see it has gone bad. I checked all the fuses and check for loose wires near the break pedal. Any other suggestions, not worried about the radio. Thanks again!

The radio may have an auto volume function that may have accidetly been tripped. As far as the transmission issue, it might be an electrical problem or it could be something mechanical near the shifter in the steering column. If you have to turn the wheel to get it to work then that is where I would start first. make sure that there is nothing that would impede the shifter from working properly.

Can a 1997 Dodge radio drain the battery?

No way the radio can draw that much power even when it is left on. Check the trunk light. On some models the back seat will fold down.
Also disconnect the negative battery terminal. Touch it to the post and listen for a relay click, If one clicks find what it runs.

Replaced brake switch now won't go out of park 1997 chevy tahoe what do i need to do?

do the brake lights come on now with the new brake switch? Why did you replace the brake switch? It sounds like the switch is not being actuated or does not have a good electrical connection. You cannot move the shifter out of park unless the brake switch indicates the brakes are depressed. Whether or not the brake lights are functioning is a good indicator of whether the switch is working or not.

Radio volume goes up and down when its on a low volume not on high

Check the dealer and see if your radio automatically adjust to your speed. Some radios were built to raise the volume when driving at higher speeds and when you get in slow traffic or when you stop it would automatically adjust down the volume. You can also go to a Radio Shack and get a spray cleaner for electrical parts and pull the volume knob off of your radio and spray the volume control and turn it rapidly to remove any hidden dirt on that volume control.

Where is my brake fuses on my 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe?

first place is to check your fuse box which is usually located under the dashboard or to the left of the emergency foot brake pedal. Newer cars also have a second box under the hood ,usually with a black cover that will say Fuses...try on the drivers side under the brake booster. Flip the cover and it will tell you where and what each fuse is for.
